Rick, I took my Farari to 7 bedroom resident to clean all seven.
Starting upstairs, i vacuumed 5 rms. I went back to the first and begin cleaning all 5. When i finished the 4th & 5th rm (35x35) which took about 2 1/2 hours, I went back to rm# 2 & 3....Why? To vacuum the FP pad shavings.

Assuming the carpet was dry i vacuumed both rooms with adjuster at lowest point. When i checked brush roller as i frequntly do there was wet fuss balls surounding my brush roller. So i took my finger forced in betwen the and scraped it out. I'm thinking air-flow obstruction.

But more importantly, my concern is: what damage i may have caused to the Quiet Storm? Did the moisture that the brush lifted out of the fibers reach the brush motor?, vacuum motor?...Where would the moisture stop?

I'm hoping that the Quiet Storm has not been reduced to a mere wind-tunnel.

Thanks

Alex,

It's hard to know for sure whether you got moisture to the motor or not. But if the vacuum is still working the most probable answer is that you dodged a bullet this time. Moisture will fry a vac motor real quickly. How do I know that? You guessed it - I have fried a couple of vac motors in my day. Doh! It honestly is not a wise idea to vacuum damp carpet. Damage to the motor could occur. Or worse yet electrocution could occur - and that would really mess up your day. If you must vacuum damp carpet use a "wet vac" type vacuum cleaner. If you use a wet vac, you should install a nylon stocking or other similar filter in-line to catch the fuzz before it gets to the vac head. There really isn't a good answer for vacuuming damp carpet IMHO.

Thank you Rick for the the peace of mind!
It'll either fry or continue blasting those micro soil particals.

I had no intentions to ever vac that damp carpet. I was just careless and didn't make sure it was dry first. Windows open, i thought it was dry. 2 1/2 hrs.

It took me 7 hours to finish 7 rooms.

PRE-VAC
PRE-SPRAY PUNCH
SCRUB-IN WITH MEX
SPOT & STAIN REMOVAL
EDGE CLEANING-RICKS BRUSH
CIMEX/RELEASEIT-FP PADS
CIMEX/BONNET- 3ROOMS
ITEM MOVING- MOVABLE TRASH CANS ECT.
25 STAIRS TO CLIMB WITH A LIP STICKING OUT PASS RISER
SINGLE HANDEDLY!!!!!

Biggest resident job yet for me. Thank goodness for the power in the release-it. Less elbow grease for me.

I learned two things from this cleaning. 1. I need an Icapsol Mini Delux. 2. Residential takes a little longer to dry than commercial.

Thanks

Air Movers for $68

May 19 2007, 9:33 PM

Alex, when I was in Lowes today, I looked at the air movers they had and was suprised to see a 3sp 20" air mover for $68 and it could be used like the Air Path that sells for $400 or more, check it out. It is well made and sturdy too. I turned it on in the store and was impressed how much air it moved when turned in the horizontal position (about 12"/18" above the carpet) I am soon going to replace most all of my airmovers with them, still need the old style to float carpets doing WD restoration. If you are doing residential carpet you could set up one of these air movers in the center of the room immediately after cleaning the carpet and move onto the next, carpet should be dry in the first room when you get ready to move to the third, just keep it in the last room you have done and keep moving it to the next and then the next and so on. Rick is right, do not vac damp carpet. Speed dry it and then vac it. Don't ruin a $600 vac because you don't have a $68 air mover.

A Live Dog.........

.......is better than a dead lion!

Besides, my vac comes standard with an air freshener mist. It feeds a single mist every 10 minutes into the carpet. I choose tea tree oil flavor cause it blends right in with my release-it cleaning agents. Now LOL at that.

A WELL MADE STATEMENT THERE RAMBO.

Something to not think about....but to move on imediately.

Hoover Empower

May 20 2007, 9:12 AM

On occation there is a lot of fiber balls left even after the icapsol. We use the hoover empower which is great for vacing damp carpet. They are only $100.00 with easy see through dump canister. We keep it bagged so it never touches anything but damp carpet when needed. As Rambo says on those large jobs drying first would be ideal but on a quick in and out this unit is inexpensive and very powerful.

Rambo, I made the mistake of buying a powr flite F6 air mover for 1/2 the price of an Air Path. It sure seemed to have great air movement but to my dismay The F6 took about 3x longer to dry rooms.
IMHO If you have used the Air Path and now going to the $68 air movers you wont be pleased with the results.
These $68 fans are maybe 1.5 amps? the F6 is 4 amps. and the new Air Path is 7 amps & only about 5" from the carpet.
If you buy a $68 fan & you're happy with the drying times (20 mins or less)let us know. I will buy 4 of them!

I think you're right about that Steveo. I 'd rather wait and buy once and have the purpose served. Speed drying.
