Cimex Trouble

Brian

Hi All,

My wife and I were about 1000 ft short of finishing a commercial job and the Cimex started to trip breakers. It was making a growling sound when we turned it on and it would not run long before it tripped the breaker. We have done thousands after thousands of sq ft without a problem. Anyone have this happen before? We were using the fiber plus pads with plenty of solution (DS) to lube the friction. We were lucky to have the Challenger to finish the rest of the job.

Thanks,

Brian

I got a call about a month ago from a customer who had a similar problem with the machine. I appeared to run really slow and was straining. The machine was brought downstairs and then I was called. When I got there the machine ran fine. I had 2 possible scenarios that could have caused the problem. The first would be a plugin that was a little overloaded. The other possibility is that there is a switch inside the motor that causes the motor to go from start up stage in to full run stage. I was thinking the maybe this mechanical switch seized slightly in one stage and when the machine was brought down stairs, it caused enough vibration to shake it loose.

After I was sure I had a good plug in, I would check this switch as well as the startup capacitor inside the motor. The one other thing to check is the belt to make sure it is not slightly worn and slipping.

Hi Brian,

It sounds like a bearing problem or possibly a motor problem.

What we recommend is doing a search for an electric motor repair shop in your area.
Do a Google search such as this (adding your town to the search criteria)
http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&q=electric+motor+repair&btnG=Google+Search

A local motor repair shop can diagnose motor problems as well as any other electrical problem. They also can pull bearings and replace them. My advice would be to develop a relationship with a local motor repair shop. It comes in handy since they should be capable of helping you with any of your electrical equipment repairs.

I wish I had a simpler approach for you. But what you described sounds like bearings or motor problems, and that can't be diagnosed without actually inspecting the machine.

Rick Gelinas,

We do know of a good repair shop here in Calgary called Pro-Equipment, and they specialize in this type of repair with electric motors. We will take it in this morning.

Thank for the advise,

Brian
