Drills

Just ordered the upholstery brush and was wondering what kind of drill works best. Electric, cordless, right angle close quarter? Appreciate some help for those of you that clean commercial upholstery this way.

Any drill or right angle grinder will work with the Rota Brush. There isn't too much torque with the brush, so even a cordless drill will work fine. The Drill Driver loads up a fair amount of head torque, so we recommend a good quality drill with a side handle attachment for the drill driver.

Here is the Craftsman cordless that I use:

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Portable+Power+Tools&pid=00911541000&vertical=TOOL&subcat=Drills&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes

I use it on stairs, both commercial- with drill driver and FP pad, and brush to work in Punch pre-spray on residential.

I also use it on car carpeting prespray.

And on more durable upholstery with brush and FP pads.

And of course I've drilled a few holes and ran a few screws with it too. Works great for me.

I have a nice cordless drill but I did'nt think that it would spin fast enough. Might give it a try though. Thanks.

Drill Speed

I have found that 600 rpm is best for funtiture. You have a better chance for damage if you go too much over 600rpm. I am still partial to the Makita 6227-C it is a little pricy @ $200 but I have had mine 3 years now and it is still like new. It is a right angle drill/polisher which seems to be the most comfortable for me. I also use 100% cotton 7" bonnets on mine.

7" Polisher

I've got a couple 7" polisher I use for stone countertops. One is a Makita variable speed. I put a brush on for steps and it worked great. Plus it's fun. If you turn it up to max rpm and dip the brush into the bucket, you can really sling some foam! (I guess you had to be there.)

One much like Rick's (though not as good, I'm sure) through one of my local distributors. Had to sit around for 3/4 of the day while they serviced a TM, and I got to looking around and thinking (which is never good for me.) So while they were keeping there, I was playing with their tools and parts and modified the brush to thread onto the spindle. I'm thinking I may have been able to use the wheels (if that's the right term) that came with it, but they were pretty much thrown away with the box.

It's great, though. It's much more comfortable for me, especially during extended periods of time. Really, for me, it's just easier to work with than a drill.
