Solution tank problem

June 12 2007 at 4:21 PM
Shorty

Yesterday, I had finished with my "Big Yella", had it in the van & had to get something from behind it.

I noticed the solution tank moved freely.

At the base of the tank, is a blue "L" shaped bracket that supports the tank.

This is pop rivetted onto the handle.

The pop rivets had somehow popped out of the handle, leaving the solution tank free to move about.

The top bracket was still holding, although it had slipped down the handle slightly.

As I had a large leather job on, I didn't have time to get to it yesterday arvo.

Going downstairs now, in the dark and the cold, to fix it.

Only problem, (apart from a crook cable pin) in two years, and not a majot problem at that.

Anyone else had this annoyance ??

Cheers,

Shorty.

I've seen the light, and changed my ways.

The tank has obviously been bumped a few times with normal wear and has broken the rivets free from the base of the tank. Not to worry though, I figured out a simple remedy that will fix the problem. And fortunately it's very easy to implement too.

1. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the top bracket.

2. Place a strip of rubber under the top bracket (a section of bicycle inner tube rubber will work nicely for this).

3. Position the tank squarely on top of the blue "L" shaped bracket that supports the tank.

4. Press downward on the tank as you tighten the top bracket that now has rubber underneath it.

This should hold the tank solidly in place and keep it from shifting around. You'll have Big Yella up and running like new.

Fixed

June 12 2007, 8:02 PM

Drilled both holes on lower supporting "L" shaped bracket and both corresponding holes in handle, one size larger.

Placed insertion rubber to prevent chaffing of metal on solution tank.

Popped oversized rivets in same.

Smooth as.

Thanks,

Shorty.

PS::::: This didn't take me 4 hours, I have also been cleaning suede jackets and giving back to customers as they called in to collect + ()&^% phone calls, of which 90% were booked.
