Upholstery machine

Here's a photo of my orbital sander that I use for upholstery.

I like it's weight, versatility, noise levels and general use. IMHO a way better option than a drill or buffer.

I DON'T WEAR STILLETTO'S

June 20 2007, 3:41 AM

My head is not in the clouds.

I don't wear high heels.

For such a vertically challenged person of my broad stature with a low centre of gravity, holding & working with a tool such as your's would, I feel, be beyond my capabilities.

For me, the long length and comfortable grip of the polisher is ideal.

Self control is all important to me, and I doubt that I would be able to control your Bosch at such a high height.

Guess it all comes down to different tools for different fools

Cheers,

Shorty.

I've seen the light, and changed my ways.

A vision of Shorty in stilletto's would be a sight to behold, LOL I agree w/Shorty. The feel of these two machines is completely different and IMHO the Makita 9227-C is better suited to furniture.

comm upholstery

June 20 2007, 11:24 PM

for comm uph i like my new Cyclo Polisher. bought it online 1.5 months ago with accesories for a total of $369.22, and between the soft and stiff brushes i've been able to encap 89 chairs for $700, between 3 diff clients.

i am not sure how it will handle very dirty uph, but for the stuff that i maintain (or lightly soiled uph) it works mint. for trashed stuff i reckon it will be a great pre-scrubber to my HWE spotting machine.

any of you fellas use a Cyclo?

thanx --- Derek.

Derek, I had a Cyclo Polisher at the first VLM meeting in Macon, Georgia for sale for $50 and no takers. It is a great tool if you like it. I much prefer the Makita.

I unfortunately can't get that image out of my mind :-0

I like the Orbital because I can use it single handedly. I imagine that you'd need two hands for your polisher?????

I also way prefer the bonnets to pads anyday for upholstery.

But I'm just a whipper snapper and not OLD and Knowledgable like you guys;-)

Bosch question

Hey gang

John,

Can i asume you just remove the sand paper pad and slip on the drill driver with 8" bonnet/fiber pads.

Sorry Steve, missed your Q

June 24 2007, 7:28 PM

The base of the sander has a velcro type finish to it which allows the pads/bonnets to stick.

The old one has a much better grip than the new one so I may have to re jig it somehow as I'm having to partially hold the bonnet while lifting off and on the surfaces. Once it's on the surface it works great.

I can't believe the difference in the bonnet colour when I do it this way..... opps I'm starting to sound like an OP candidate.
