Carpet Replacement?

A couple of weeks ago a friend who owns a restoration company asked me to help him extract 3 condos that were flooded because the washing machine in the vacant one overflowed.

This week he calls me, desperate, because the customer is holding up a $4500.00 payment because it was claimed that one of my friend's employees tracked adhesive from the sheet vinyl floor being installed in the laundry room all over the carpet. He had asked his carpet supplier and installer to look at the problem and see if it could be corrected. The supplier said the the adhesive had been tracked all over the carpet and that it could not be corrected. The carpet would have to be replaced, 800 s/f @ $3300.00.

So, I meet my buddy at the condo and find several small grey spots on an off white builders grade cut pile carpet in the small hall connecting the laundry room, a bathroom and bedroom. The affected area totaled about 6 s/f. It wasn't adhesive, but, probably some dirty water that splashed onto the carpet. I hit the spots with Encap Spot and Cimexed the whole hallway (about 24 s/f)for about 2 minutes. It took longer to get the Cimex out of the truck than to clean the area. Total bill $100.00 because that's my minimum charge.

I do not understand how some people can operate with practices such as this.

Just venting.

Honesty. Integrity. Honor. Loyalty. Qualities that are often lacking these days.

As I've gotten more involved in the supply/chemical/carpet business I've seen a few ambitous folks who would sell their granny to make a buck. Business can be brutal in this ol' system of things.
