Anyone seen this?

I cleaned a resi cut pile today and the amount of fiber coming off the carpet was scary. I had to clean out the debris bin on the iCapsol every 5 minutes. There were clumps of fiber everywhere. Only did one room don't know if I should continue or go to HWE. The carpet looked fine though. I don't know if I'm pulling loose fiber left in the carpet from manufacturer or what. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Anyone Seen This?

Carpet shedding is normal and you will get carpet fuzz a lot whether cleaning or vacuuming. Customers that buy new carpets run back to the store and say "There is something wrong with my carpet", I keep getting all this fuzz. Sales guy should have told them about it but what does the sales guy really know.

Fairly new or very poorly vacuumed carpet.  More likely to happen around the edges of the room and near seams if they were not properly sealed (buttered) during installation.

GREAT opportunity to educate the customer on their vacuuming habits.

Seen it too many times

July 9 2007, 9:59 PM

Boy, I've seen that a lot. I've used CRB machines for a long time now and even with the GLS Residential brushes(pretty soft)one canget quite a bit of fuzz. I agree with the previous posts, especially regarding the vacuuming. On older carpets can kind of help illustrate the amount of fiber loss that can happen. When one wonders why the areas look worn in front of the sofa or the favorite recliner, show the pile of fuzz and recommend more frequent and thorough vacuuming to remove the sand and sharp edged grit. It spooked me too when I was first stating to use CRB in homes. Did you find it really helped to "groom" and pile lift the carpet and left a nice appearance afterwards? Oh yeah, we find a nice clean power rotor type of sweeper works prtty well for collecting the fuzz, along with a GrandiGroom to "rake" it up. Good luck!

Thanks Guys for that information. I was worried for a while there.Only the second time I've used the iCapsol on a resi. I'm still new at this encapping. I'll finish up tommorrow and show the owner the pile of fiber. Good advice much appreciated!!!!

Dave. Are you asking about the iCapsol pile grooming and lifting? If so the answer is yes! That's a sweet machine! The first resi I did (cut pile) Came out great. The carpet really looked like new.

SHEDDING

July 10 2007, 7:28 AM

This information just confirms what I said earlier. This is from CRI.

---------------------------------------------------------

After installation
In the months following installation, you may notice some shedding or sprouting. This is normal and will not affect the carpet’s life or beauty. Here’s what to do:

Shedding— The shedding of loose fibers is normal and should subside with regular vacuuming.

Sprouting— If a single tuft extends beyond the carpet’s surface, simply clip it off. Do not pull it out.

Pile reversal or shading— This seeming color change may occur in various parts of the carpet, caused by light being reflected in different ways as pile fibers are bend in different directions. This is not a defect but a characteristic of plush carpet.

Wrinkling— If ripples occur, call your retailer. It may be necessary to professionally restretch the carpet.
If you have any additional questions, contact your retailer.
