100 % wool ...encap

July 19 2007 at 10:53 PM

I will be cleaning 5800 s/f 100% wool, solid light color, upscale restaurant carpeting soon.
Does anyone have suggestions on how best to encap this animal?
Or should I just HWE?
It has been HWE every month for about 2 or 3 years by S/S.
It now looks pretty trashed with stains and rust from table legs.
Any oppinions/experience will be appreciated.

A wool carpet like that will clean up very well with Releasit and FiberPlus pads. Go for it.

Just be prepared to use up to twice the normal amount of solution compared to your typical synthetic carpets.

Keep those pads lubed well and you shouldn't have an issue. If they are not lubed well, you'll get them filling up with fibre very quickly and then you loose the efficiency of the pads. Don't be tempted to turn the pads over as the fibere tends to block the layer and then your solution does not spread as effectively.

You will need to flush those rust spots for best results but I normally do that with a little spotting machine prior to encapping.

If it's trashed, I even use a set of Max pads on wool but only on trashed.

Other than that go for it!!!!

I agree with everything above. However, the wool will clean up nicely with the Cimex/Releasit combo.

Wow, I wonder if I could get that in my wash pit and make a video? just kidding.

Thanks for the responding.
I forgot to mention it is a cut pile carpet. Not loop.

I wonder if Kevin ever takes off his hip waders and if I should be wearing mine when reading threads like this. lol

Trashed, light colored, cut pile, wool, restaurant!!!

Although I think that Kiwi knows what he's talking about I think I will but be slightly less optimistic than the rest of you.

Can you please take lots of before and after pictures - and if you are sucessful - just think of value those pictures will have in your web-site and marketing

Tony, we sell quite a bit of Releasit to Australia (where most carpet is made of wool). If the Releasit Cimex combo and FiberPlus pads wasn't working well for them, the blokes down under wouldn't be using it

Tony, we just did a large 1000m2 (roughly 10000sqft) wool axminster carpet. Vacant job, straight run, centre of CBD and no hope of parking where I could get a TM anywhere near close enough.

I don't own any potty's and so VLM it was with Releasit DS and the Cimex wearing Fibre Plus pads.

It did require a groom which was the hardest part.

Cleaned up beautifully thank you very much. Now it wasn't trashed, nor was it a restaurant but it was a high quality wool carpet cut pile.

As I said earlier, you got to be prepared to go through the juice. I probably went through twice as much on that job per m2 than if it was on a synthetic carpet. Keeping those pads lubed is all taht it takes. 20 litres (5.3 gallons at nromal mixing ratios) went 100m2 so if you do the maths on that, it'll tell you how much juice per m2.

I can't be bothered trying to work it all out and convert it into OLD SCHOOL stuff

All I know is that it WORKS...

Guys, I have no doubt that wool can be encapped - done it myself on hundreds of thousands of yards.
All I'm saying is that to predict that "it will clean up great", considering the conditions described is beyond my predictive powers.
I'm not saying it can't be done ever but lets wait and see the before and after pictures which as I said if sucessful will be great for marketing purposes.

Ever hear of the term "managing expectations"? Do you tell all of your customers "it will clean up great, before even seeing it"?

I have to agree with Tony's point.

Scottie ALWAYS told Captain Kirk it will take two days to fix something, and then he fixed it in 30 minutes- with some brillant "new" scheme- which he almost always had in mind before he told the captain two days.

This made Scottie the hero all the time.  He exceeded Kirks expectations because he told him he could do it, but did it better or faster all the time- knowing the whole time he could.
