Transition advice

July 20 2007 at 8:32 AM

Joe DeSouza

Part of my business plan is to have the commercial end of my biz to be 60-75% of the biz, the rest residential by the end of the year - right now its the opposite...I'm having a hard time switching over because my residential side is doing pretty well so I hardly have any time to work the commercial end!

For you guys that have made the switch, any advice on how to do it? I dont want to just drop the resi jobs, they're paying the bills.(read: CASH FLOW!) BUT the commercial jobs are the most enjoyable and profitable, for me at least! When I do get them, they are MUCH easier to do; resi HWE is really taking a toll physically on me (I work alone)

I figure I would do a gradule change-over to commercial, not just drop the resi, even though I think that's what you did, Rick?

Thanks, guys!

Joe

Do something different

July 20 2007, 8:43 AM

Joe,

You are going to have to do something different than you do now, if you want to make that change. Join a Chamber or networking group and meet other business owners. This should help you to be able to get your foot in the door with business owners you don't already know. Another thing is set aside a half day a week to market to other businesses.

What ever you do remember you got to make a change if you want to make a change.

By the way, what did you ever do with the church pews?

Hire someone and train them properly to do the work you do not want or like to do., Then concentrate on your commercial side of the business.

Set up systems to run your Co and work smart

david nailed it.

commercial and residential are night and day different as far as approach. if you want the comm work be prepaired to sell a ton to net a little untill you get your sales pitch and referrals down.

decide which you want the most and go after that!
