I understand the search engine top ten for customers searching but why would having more carpet cleaners pointed to my site help me. Don't mean to be stupid just not getting it?

Most search engines look at a link to your site as a vote for getting to the top of the searches. The more votes you get from other sites, the better. Links from sites with the same keywords are rated even higher.

The search engines send out what are called robots to look over the words in your site. Chances are that your carpet cleaning company’s site has the words “carpet cleaning, cleaning, spot removal, etc” in several places. Many of the keywords are the same as the carpet cleaner in another city. This makes the site relevant to your site.

So, having a link from a carpet cleaning company is much better than a link from a bookstore.

The best way for a carpet cleaning company to come out on top with the search “Your city Carpet Cleaning” is the have links from other carpet cleaning companies and to have links from other companies in your city. I can’t really help with the links from your city except to tell you to ask other local companies if you can trade links.

i have wonderd about getting a site up, i see others sites from cleaners and say man that is nice. For me I'm a one man show in a town of 100,000 I wonder how much business would i get from a web site. The cost is not that bad really.

I'm in an area of about 300,000 and get about 2-3 jobs per week from our site. I advertise it in my newspaper ads and I'm already highly ranked in the search engines.

So, I would say you could easily get 2 or 3 jobs per month.

We get about 2 jobs a week off of our website. I am hoping for more. So thanks for this opportunity John.

I have had my website up for about 6 months and I get about 4 jobs a month so far. I no longer put ads in phone books, coupon books etc. People fine me on the web. Thanks for the help.
