| A mildew smell was present this morning when I checked on an account. i encapped it last night, 1 gallon (rtu) per 350-400 s.f. It was no air flow in the building at all. I had a fan going (sorta like an air mover) drying as i cleaned. And when i periodically checked it seem to be drying the fibers.
MY CONCERN IS 3 THINGS:
1. why the mildew smell?
2. will it go away tonight?
3. what can i do to speed up the smell disappearing process?
They will be in to work tomorrow morning wish i could pre vent them form smelling it. The first time this happen to me. BTW, the carpet is low level loop with padding underneath.
Thanks

Alex-
It could be a HVAC problem of ventelation, perhaps a light spray of Hydrocide or similar would work? I doubt its anything you have done your rtu x SF is right on the money. |

I don't think it could be anything you could have done either. It could be pre-existing mold spores or mildew that was dry and now that you've added some h20 to the surface it's brought out the smell.
They could have had some water damage in the past...possibly a seepage problem?

I went back just to check the smell tonihgt. I left the door open to the stair well that leads right into the elevator lobby, which is what i cleaned. The smell had almost disappeared. Had to strain to smell it.
I took some odercide that i purchased for a urine job that never happened. I mist it over the aerea as well as the floor that i did tonight.
The two floors that i cleaned are the biggest tenants in the building. They rent both floors. They've been sweating building mangment about the floors.
I didn't want to let mangement down. He just ask me if i wanted to bid on the janitorial account so he can give those other guys 30 day notice. They're the ones thats been my job security in that account. They drip beverages all over the carpet from leaking trsh bags. Mangement calls me to clean the carpet.
He sees me by means of the camera on my hands & knees. He appreciates my throughness. What he don't know is that its DS-50/50 doing all the work i'm just applying it. (Smile)
Thanks guys!
Thanks

Aris sounds right. I agree; pre-existing. There is no way with encap that you caused a mold problem. It's no doubt pre-existing. As the carpet dries, it will more than likely lessen if not totally disappear. The next time you clean it, it will probably re-appear. The only way to rid it is to get rid of the carpet and then follow proper remediation procedures. |

No worries about can i mix this with that. Or making mistake of applying wrong solution ect. ect. Its simplicity that i'm attracted to. Plus it works faithfully. Makes me look good when i know zip about anything.
I clean a chinese restaurant monthly, today manager ask me to qualify his home for cleaning. 1550 sq.ft. of carpet + 15 stairs. The chinese guy he was using for the resturant before hiring me, cleaned his home once also. (HWE) Manager said its no good. So he ask me. I'm just a two year rookie at all this. All credit go's to the releaseit products that made ME look good.
So, thats why DS-50/50!!

The reason I question, Alex, is that DS mixed 50/50 when it should normally be mixed at 1/32 is awfully expensive to use, especially when it works so well at the recommended dilution. Even in a dining room setting I find that 1/32 works in most cases. I just prespray with punch. The only time I dilute 50/50 is in a spray bottle for spill stains. |
