grease and oil?

August 7 2007 at 2:25 PM
Ken Jacobs - Toronto

I have a commercial job this week where there will be grease from the elevator repair guy. Am I in trouble?

Last week the "system" failed to remove marks left by tire marks (from kids bike on CGD)

thanks

Releasit is just one of a couple of products you want in your tool kit. It works well on a lot of things, but sometimes you need to pull a different wrench out of the toolbox. One item you'll always want to have on hand is Prochem Citrus Gel. It works great on grease and gum. For Grease, just place a small amount on a cotton terry towel and dab a small amount on the spot. Should come out almost instantly. Gently blot up any excess and then treat with 50/50 to encapsulate the remained and agitate briskly with your Cimex. I also tried some really good degreaser from Lorne Allin this weekend. Ask him about it, it's amazing stuff.

Grease and oil?

Rick is right on, use citrus gel or you can also use P.O.G. just be sure to run the cimex over it to Encap any residue. As far as those tire marks on CGD.. the carpet was most likely burned by the rubber. I have run into the same thing and a burn is a burn. It's the same thing when someone drags furniture around their office.. it leaves a burn in the carpet.

I bet the "system" did not fail you, you probably had a friction burn.

what Kevin said. olefin has a low melt-point since it is plastic.

on less than 50% of my jobs do i have to pull out my spotting kit. i just lift up the Mex and let it sit for 10-15 tic's, and it removes well over 90% of the stuff i run up against, being careful not to over-wet.

thanx --- Derek.

Wool,Silk or Cotton......

Derek, most carpet we deal with is plastic. 100% Olefin fiber has the lowest melting temp. of all carpets and happens to have a love affair with oil. It also does not absorb water very easily (less than 1/10 of 1% as compared to Nylon which will absorb in the 20% range) One of the reasons for the challenge of cleaning Olefin w/ a truckmount. Sliding a folding table on edge over it will melt a nice line in it that looks like soil. We see this in Churches alot. Sorry, just Rambo-ling.

Yeah I learned about beater bar brushes on cheap vacuum cleaners before I first started cleaning carpets.  I help my girlfriend clean some commercial offices.  The building has a few "battle scars" from beater bar burns (Did I do that?).

The first day of IICRC class I had a light bulb go off in my head as to why- DING!

That's why good commercial upright vacuums (the two motor ones) when either in the upright position or when you pull the hose out to detail the brush roll shuts off automatically. All because of the low melting point of Olefin.

Have you tried...?

Pre spraying the greasy areas with Punch and then following up with DS? Works for us all the time on greasy places. We clean a diesel mechanic shop front showroom every month with the Cimex and it looks amazing each time, no matter how much stuff the mechanics track on it. It is very dirty & greasy but Rick's system has made it a profitable job for us to do & the customer asked us a couple years ago when we switched from HWE to Cimex..."what did you do different to our carpet...it looks like new again!"
