Wax on CGD

August 13 2007 at 3:22 PM
Joe Desmond

I just looked at a CGD that is seriously in need of a flame thrower. Candle Wax all over, tape and Tape adhesive all over, some spill stains. 2800 SQ.FT. (Wax about 3 dozen areas various sizes.)(Adhesive about the same)
I have used my dry vapor steam machine to get out candle wax on cut pile but not the amount that this carpet has. Any suggestions???? I figure it will take me a couple of hours to treat all the wax and adhesive first. At least.....This is a church(so it is called)150 chairs to move carpet has not been maintained for years. I'm thinking in the .30 to .35 cent range at least......
HELP!!!

Joe, take my advice and WALK on this one, unless you don't have anything else to do.

Give them a REALLY high quote with absolutely no guarantees. The kind of quote where they probably won't do it, but if they do you can make a pile of money on. Write up a work authorization noting that there are no guarantees and have them sign it.

Use hell gel from vacaway apply let sit for 10 minutes than agitate with gum getter or bone scraper than cimex, if any colour remains hit it with red vanish has never failed me yet.

candle wax, chairs

Depending on how the wax is on the carpet, we have had some luck with gum remover(freezing it) and scraping it off. Not always though then use of iron or steam vapor machine for some wax spots. Then aggressive agitation with DS mixed at 6 oz. ration, sometimes pretreating with Encap Spot on the worst. If you are really interested in doing the job, might ask if they could move the chairs out of the way prior to your performing service. Also might charge by the hour for the wax removal and moving of chairs etc. Then charge your usual rate for ccing.

Floor finish requires floor stripper - can't be used on carpet

August 15 2007, 9:05 AM

Hell Gel will NOT work to remove floor finish. Commercial floor finishes are made with a zinc metal interlock. Commercial floor stripper is designed to attack the zinc metal interlock and break down the floor finish. So you would need to use floor stripper, but that is not practical for carpet since it will likely damage the carpet. To make matters worse, you're dealing with a build-up from sloppy prior floor stripping, so the concentrated floor finish will be even tougher to dissolve. Bottom line, it's probably not worth attempting. I'd pass on this one.

Rick Candle Wax not Floor Finish

The job can be done but is it worth your time

Brown Kraft paper and a iron will work but it take time. You could have them remove the candle wax and you clean the carpet

I passed on this one. By the looks of this place they would never pay me for my time and I don't work cheap. Pretty run down building in need of a lot of maintenance. They will find some poor sucker to do it I'm sure.
