CRB

I own a Vento. I LOVE it! BUT the accounts I want are t-r-a-s-h-e-d and I tend to stay a little confused about what to use/do with such dirty carpet.

Does a CRB machine work any better for really dirty carpet? I thought about the steamon demon...until I read Shorty's post about why CGD wicks.

I thought about HWE these carpets....until the same post.

so, I watched Rick's videos again, and it seemed as though he thought that either the Cimex, or a CRB was better for reaaaaaalllllly dirty carpet.

As we discussed on the phone, I feel you'll be best served if you will plan to flush the mess out of the carpet via hot water extraction since it sounds like it's totally loaded with crud. Expect that it will wick, so plan to make a return visit to do a follow up encap cleaning. That should get the carpet back to a maintainable state. And make sure you explain to your customer what you're planning to do, and charge accordingly for two intensive cleanings. They were the slobs that neglected the carpet, so now they'll need to pay to fix it.

I hope it goes well for you!

Clarification

August 24 2007, 4:29 PM

Phil, thanks for the kind words, but really, they should be directed to Del instead.

After all, he's the one that wrote them, all worded to clever for this black duck

As a suggestion, has anyone tried a light application of citric acid over the carpet, after cleaning, prior to grooming?

You may find this will stop a lot of your "wicking" problems.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies, without any of the negative **** I would get elsewhere.

Cheers,

Shorty.

I've seen the light, and changed my ways.

PS:::: I may have mentioned this before, many years ago, I used to have a business called Steamin Demon Carpet Cleaning.

Logo was a devlishly smiling, fat, red demon, complete with three prong spear set on a black background.

Definitely FLUSH IT OUT

Short Story

We do several restaurants for a few chains and independents
most times we encap, but there comes a time when the soil load and the grease covering is too much for encaping even pads because it will take too many of them thus the time factor.

I did an experiment in two of the new ones by trying to only encap or pad cap the nasty grease spots, the results were the manager asking us to come back to touch up a few areas. Yes the areas that were loaded with grease, in the other restaurant after several passes I could see the same thing going to happen, we switch to the CBM with the Demon to extract.

This manager told us the carpet has not looked this good in a long time. There was no need to encap after my flushing with the Demon, no wicking to speak of, I flooded the carpet with the prespray scrubbed with the CBM then vacuumed up the excess with the Demon then extracted followed by a few dry passes.

Sometimes you just have to flush to goo out before you do maintenance procedures.

Oops! sorry Del

August 24 2007, 5:27 PM

I was wrong and shorty was right. It was Del who wrote the post. My apologies to both.

Okay, Shorty...please elaborate for this green horn what citric acid should be used, how and where to find.

David is right...

For the really nasties, pre spray with Punch, mechanical action with a CRB machine, flush with the Steamin Demon, hot water/Punch. and you may have to Cimex/Releasit, and then again you may not have to. I have had a couple I had to Cimex after the flushing and they all came out great.

Citric Acid / Wicking / Browning

August 24 2007, 7:48 PM

Major suppliers should carry it.

All directions on bottle.

We use a peroxide based product for serious water marks.

If we feel that a carpet is going to brown/wick after cleaning, we apply citric acid.

One thing that concerns me is the different terms used between the U.S. & Oz.

I am not sure if you refer to wicking as browning from excess water.

OR

If this is from to much vacuum, pulling dirt to the surface, and the carpet browns as it dries.

We do get a lot of cellulosic browning due to the jute backing used on most carpets down under.

Thankfully, I am seeing more action back these days, but not much.

Cheers,

Shorty.

I've seen the light, and changed my ways.
