We will be in Disney in Nov and I have just found out about this place: Fantasy of Flight in Polk City, Fla

How far is this place from Disney?

And have any of you locals been there?

Thanks

Not far

Polk City is about midway between Orlando, where Disney is, and Tampa, on the I-4

I think about an hour driving time.

Cheers,

Shorty.

I've seen the light, and changed my wicked ways.

FANTASY OF FLIGHT

It's probably about 15-25 miles south of Disney. It's not too far outside of Lakeland. Look for the guy hanging off the plane on the right side of the road. Can't miss it.

Other places to visit in Florida: OldTown in Kissimmee (saturdays are best)

Silver Springs in Ocala Towards Wildwood I-75 (Daytona is about an hr west of there.)

Been there 3 times already - I'm a WW2 aviation buff, so I love going there...Lot's of great planes, one of the best collections in the world. They walk you thru to the shop where they rebuild the planes, they even have a Lockheed P38 that they found in the jungle that they will be working on (My fav plane) MAKE SURE you find out if there is any planes flying the day you are there...call ahead and ask. One day I was there and Kermit (the owner) took out his Mustang and did 3-4 full speed fly-bys, it was so incredible! I got to talk to him for a while which was cool, too - a real nice guy.

You can also take a ride in a biplane!

Pretty close to Disney, you can't miss it if you're on route 4, look for the big 1930's plane adjacent to the highway and take that exit...

I worked there

In a former life, I was a comedy magician working cruise ships, colleges and comedy clubs. being a magician, I also had a "close-up" show. I worked for/at Disney off and on for well over a decade when I was home from ships.
My agent(s) also booked lots of trade-shows in and around the Disney area. MY FAVORITE place to perform this smaller show, was at FF. It is/was one of Central Florida's best kept secrets. The "tour" is always changing. Tourists can feel the passion the workers there have for their work. That is contagious!

One thing I will promise you; you will NOT regret going.

right after 9/11, ALL of the smaller air-craft for private use was grounded. FF suffered and had to re-think their game plan. Before that, air craft were flown giving air-tours of the area...wow!

I would often be the entertainer on one of the buses that shipped folks from the Disney Hotels to and from FF and I NEVER heard ONE bad comment.
