Oh No! My Cimex died today...

...In the middle of a job. When I try to turn it on, the motor just hums; it doesnt turn at all. I first thought it was the belt, but it's the motor (I took the cover off to see)...I waited till tonite to try again, in case it was overheating, but same thing is happening...Does anyone know what might be wrong? I hope I dont need a new motor!

Rick, if you can lead me in the right direction to get it fixed, I would appreciate it!

Thanks!

Joe

ps: this is my older 15" machine, it's about 12 yrs old (approx.) and i've had it for 3 years without a problem, so I was expecting it to act up eventually... I guess I have to lug the big 19" around tomorrow - boohoo!

Considering that I bought it used for a decent price and it has paid for itself at least 20 times over, I'm not too freaked out...

If you can still turn the motor by hand then it might be the motor brushes that are wore out. If that is the case then it would be a cheap fix.

Need a re-charge ??

Drop it off to an electrician to fix while you go out and make more money.

My time is to valuable to spend mucking around with electrical items that I virtually know nothing about.

Especially when I can be out there making much more and write the expense off on tax.

Cheers,

Shorty.

I've seen the light, and changed my wicked ways.

Hopefully only the starting capasitor is blown, and any electrical motor shop can get you a new one. Keep us posted what you find.

Joe,

I was out of town for a couple of days, sorry I didn't see your message sooner. It's hard to diagnose without more info. But it does sound suspiciously like a motor problem. I will e-mail you and perhaps we can get it sorted out.

You might also want to run it by an electric motor repair shop. I think it's a really good idea to have relationship with a local electric motor repair shop in your area. Those guys can troubleshoot anything electrical. That's what they do all day. So whether it's the motor, or a switch, or cord, they can figure it out. Having a motor repair shop you can turn to to diagnose all the electrical stuff on your truck can be a real life saver when problems come up.

I hope we can get your ol' 12 year old Cimex back in business ASAP.
