OP padding question

September 24 2007 at 8:55 PM
Jeff

I've been told that when using OP cleaning that you should vacuum when done even if damp due to the debris that deep oping can bring up, my concern is doesn't that effect the encap process?

I have not had any trouble from vacuuming too soon. It still needs to be vacuumed when dry.

Only vac

I only vac when it needs to be. If you do a good pre vac, then when you are finished you can sometimes get away with just grooming the carpet with a rake. You only need to vac when you are getting the fuzzies.

When I did my first few carpets, I was not vacuuming enough first. so, I got a lot of trash after OP. Then, I took some of the advice given here and vacuum, vacuum, vacuum....now, I only need to rake post OP.

I own a professional grade vacuum...that matters alot.

Jeff, if you are vacuuming debris after OPing it will have no effect on the encap process. Unless you are using a wet/dry vac, wait until the carpet is almost dry b4 vacuuming. Most vacs are designed for dry soil only. Having owned a vac store, I can't tell you how many vac motors were destroyed by moisture. "Be Kinder than Necessary. I agree with Ray. One other thing to note, I found this interesting. I get 1 to 1.5 hour drying times doing HWE and most times the first rooms I clean are dry by the time I finish the last rooms. So, my point is simply that if you are having trouble with excess moisture, and vacuuming wet carpets, then I have to wonder if you are overwetting the carpets? Cuz surely a VLM system should dry faster than HWE.

Right?

Marty is right, If it takes more than 1 hour to dry doing VLM, you are putting too much product down.

wrong. VLM does not mean dries the fastest.

VLM - not - DTF.

thanx --- Derek.
