Encapsulating Question

October 10 2007 at 9:46 AM
Tom Blandford

I have been cleaning commercially with a cimex and release-it ds for about two years now. Nothing but great results. My question is on stairs, is there a good professional looking tool that can be used to scrub in the product faster than spraying it on and then going over it with a hand brush? I have tried a drill attachment with a cimex pad but was not happy with the results and how uneven it applied the product.

I purchased a Makita after reading Rambo and Shorty write about it, works great with fiber plus pad. I purchased my Makita on e-bay about $200.00 new with shipping and comes with bag/velcro pad and buffing pads, works great on upholstery to.

Stairs, Stairs and More Stairs

Tom, the Makita works OK for stairs but I prefer a 15" CRB with the handle removed (my Whittaker handle snaps off with push pins) I pre-spray and start at the top (plugged in at the bottom) work from top down, very easy and fast and professional looking while you are doing them. B sure to vac 1st, also always use encap products.

+1 on the Whittaker, also occasionally use a Cyclo polisher(Whittaker used to sell as the"Gusto"). It is a nice multi-use tool, stairs uph. etc.

I use a random orbital car polisher with cotton bonnet, work well.

What about the ups & downs ??

October 10 2007, 6:05 PM

Rambo, with the Whittaker, does not half the machine hang over the tread when you are cleaning stairs??

I don't know as we don't have this machine down under, so I'm not sure of it's measurements.

Also, how do you clean the riser??

Not sure about terminology here, but I'll give it a go.

Tread: Is the horizontal/flat part you stand on.

Riser: Is the vertical section coming from one tread up to the next.

Cheers,

Shorty.

PS ::: What I like about a small piece of pad/brush equipment, is the fact that you can literally roll it around any bends, folds, corners, etc; whereas if you use a HWE extractor, you are usually limited to a relatively flat piece of steel that sits at a 90 degree angle to the surface to be cleaned.

This can be hard on even well maintained youthful bodies, when you get to my age, it's pure hell.

Cheers,

Shorty.

I've seen the light, and changed my wicked ways.

Shorty, the Whittaker does not hang over the tread, you have to move it foward and reverse to cover all of the step, plus it does an excellent job of cleaning the bull nose. To clean the riser (BTW your termonolgy is excellent) I run mine w/o the front brush guard which allows me to clean the riser by just lifting the machine slightly.

I use either the Oreck Orbiter (12" OP machine) or a small, hand held Ryobi 6" orbiting hand buffer(lightweight for upholstery, $19.00 @HD- one of the best little tools I own)

We use a CBM with out the handle also.
It does hang over the edge when running it across the step, this the way we use it but this has not been a problem.
