Essential oils would be OK to use (in very small doses). You could add a couple of drops of an essential oil (such as lemon, grapefruit, or lavender), which will complement the natural Tea Tree scent that's already in Releasit. Essential oils can be purchased at a health food store or online.

I understand that encap and punch are perfectly balance in there formulation and that adding anything to them will prevent the encapsulation process working but I got to ask if only a few drops of essential oils are allowed what does all the junk in the carpet do to it?

The "junk in the carpet" is typically soil that has dried to the surface, and this won't normally affect the crystallization process.

On the other hand, the "junk in the carpet" is not being added in with the diluted detergent, which would very likely alter the crystallization.

BTW Releasit does an excellent job of encapsulating a wide range of foreign matter in the carpet, including oily binder soil and chemical residue from prior cleanings.

The main reason for only using a small amount of essential oil is that these oils are strong and very little is needed.
