Do most of you use Punch on trashed carpeting when useing an OP method? If not what to use??
Also does anyone heat it up first?

We have heard from many of our customers who LOVE using punch on heavily soiled carpets with their OP machines. Heating it will amplify the performance a little (hotter water always cleans better than cold water does).

On trashed carpet I use 180-200 degree heat first thing on the job is a bucket and bucket heater I ad the hot water to my prespray and the use the remainder from the bucket for the pad. When I lay the pad on the carpet you can see the steam. punch works well.

I have experimented with different temp. while using Punch and found out that dwell time was more important. That is not to say that hot Punch doesn't make a difference. I like Jeff, like it as hot as possible. 5 minutes of dwell time for the pre-spray works the best. I also lightly spray the OP bonnets before extracting. First we use synthetic (and there are many different types to choose from) for plenty of mechanical action and then follow with 100% cotton bonnets. We no longer use the extra thick 100% cotton (Plus Mfg.) bonnets. We prefer the thin ones with the OP system. Thick bonnets slow the OP action and defeat its purpose of digging out more soil. On really trashed carpet, we first use the GLS and then follow with OP. We like this system better than when we used the Butler and the RX20. We have seen a lot of changes in the chems and equipment over the last 20 years. We can now get it clean, green and fast with very little moisture. My, my, my what is comming next, it will be exciting. I will be a smaller part of it in the future as we now have 3 generations working in this industry and our fourth generation is now almost 3. We will be posting a picture of all of us on our web site before the year is out. C-Ya

How many pads...

do you go through per sf for a really trashed carpet? I seem to be going through a TON when I use the OP method, or even just bonnets on the Mex. I have tried to extract with the SD but it seems almost impossible to get it all out!

Thank you for the kind words Mike. At this point in my life that if I am not helping others, either in word or deed, then I am living my life in vain. That is the one thing I have admired about Rick Gelanis. Even if you did not buy it from him, he is always willing to help, my kind of guy.

I do lift the head off the floor at start up but occasionally while manuevering and only the head is on the ground, the head will stop. I have a lot of hours on the machine and it has been bullet proof so far.
I'm 50 and wondering how long I can keep up this pace in this biz.
I can't figure out if it's keeping young or makeing me old.
