Are you sure its blood? Blood usually dries pretty dark--almost brown.

I'm assuming that the 'light colour' refers to the carpet?

If so, try a spotting mixture of Releasit DS. I was going to say 50ml in 1/2 a litre bottle but most of you wouldn't get that. Try it at 1:10 with water and aggitate lightly.

I've had good success with that if it's just blood splatters.

For anything heavier than that, I go a dedicated Blood remover. I actually use a range of products from the dry cleaning industry that are made in Aussie and found that their Blood remover is very good.

If not done well, the marks will re appear and make you look silly.

Pre warn that it may take a couple of visits but in reality, if the carpet is DRY when you leave and the marks are gone, there isn't much chance of them returning.

I've had good success with an enzymatic cleaner such as Molecular Modifier, then rinsing well. Some may not like using enzymes on wool, but the dwell time is low, and you're rinsing it out with COOL water, not hot, which could 'set' the blood stain.

You could boost the Releasit with a little ammonia, which does very well on blood; however, the pH might be higher than you would like for wool. If you go this route, make sure to pretest and neutralize.
