Shrinking pads

January 4 2008 at 3:17 PM
Matt

The other day I was cleaning and kept my bucket heater in the mex while I cleaned...noticed that the diameter of the Max pads was down to about 5". Did the heat shrink them? Is that bad? just curious if anyone knows or experianced this!

I'll ask a dumb question were the pads washed prior to using?

Weird. Never heard of that before.
You get the prize for strangest experience.

I guess it's possible. After all, the pads are made from fiber, mostly polyester strands. And of course, fiber can always shrink in very HOT water. I've just never heard anyone do it before.

BTW - the prize you've won is a smaller than normal pad - enjoy

I mix my solution hot with my Aero Tech and my pads shrink also. They don't shrink 3 inches. It's not a problem to me.

Matt,

Just wondering, how big of an area were you cleaning with the heater in your Mex? Is it not that much of a hassle managing two cords?

Thanks

Was wandering why you would want to heat your detergent to that level, some detergents may not be formulated to stand that heat, could effect the end result. Maybe Rick can address this. Plus two cords to contend with, possible blown fuses etc.

2 cords & Too Hot, Rick?

January 6 2008, 11:54 AM

Alex,

I don't need two cords, I have a heavy duty cord with three outlets on the end (20amp, 10guage? )...i don't have a long cord on the mex any more either, just about a foot, I plug that in and have two other outlets. I only run the bucket heater with the mex, but when I have to use an outlet I just turn off the mex and plug in my vac, sprayer or whatever else I might need in that area.

As for the amount of heat, it wasn't bubbling (boiling) so I assumed it was not too hot, but I would like to hear Rick's opinion on it, as I do not want to mess any chem action up!

I was cleaning a DESTROYED chineese carpet, thick grease, wich is why I wanted max heat. I Used PUnch at 12oz, HOTTT, scrubbed real quick, then followed up with Mex and DS at 6oz HOTTT and dwell about 5 -10min extract with Demon. Brand New Carpet. Almost. Still wondering if they will pay me...

Heat will not adversely affect Releasit. Any temperature up to boiling is safe for Releasit.

As we learned in our IICRC classes - we clean with TACT

Temperature is ALWAYS a factor.

However even though there is always an advantage to cleaning with a higher temperature, it is not absolutely necessary with Releasit. You can get excellent results with Releasit at cooler temps too. Yet you will see a little boost in performance at higher temps. But it also cleans very well at room temperature too.
