Get a grip

Who has had this annoying little problem ???

My grips on Big Yella have come loose, so I decided they needed some adhesive to hold them on.

Bear contact adhesive, the one you put on both surfaces, wait a while 'til it starts to go off, then stick them together.

Worked well for a few weeks.

Now it's like a lubricant, gets a bit hairy going up and down stairs and the grip decides to slide off

Have thought about pop rivetting the end closest to the main frame, but don't like the idea of a possible aluminum splinter in my finger.

I know, I'm a woos

Any ideas ??

Thanks,

Shorty.

Oakly!

Call oakly,
They'll take care of ya.
I use to love my oakly grips on my mongoose dirt bike with matching speed rims and hand brakes. Grips are really great though.

Thanks

I replaced the original grips with some type of bike grips since the originals were leaving my hands black but the bike grips were no better. Then I got wise...ordered replacement grips from Challenger, those grips are my favorites, nice and soft!

Gripping gripes

January 19 2008, 6:10 PM

Do you use an adhesive of any sort to secure the grips ?, or do they just slip on and stay on ?

My current problem is that my grips slowly start to work their way to the end of the handle.

Unless you are aware of it, you suddenly find you are holding more loose grip than machine.

This can be a bit disconcerting when going up or down stairs. ;-(

Thanks again for the replies.

Handlebar tape

January 19 2008, 8:06 PM

Shorty,

You can try this solution: Bicycle handlebar tape.

1)  Professional handlebar tape is built to be cushiony.

2)  Some of them are water proof.

3)  You will have plenty left over to retape several times (if needed).

4)  If has a small amount of adhesive on the back side and you can wrap tightly to add a little more pressure to stay in place.

5)  You could even double wrap to add a second layer of cushion, if desired.

6)  You can pimp your Cimex even further by choosing a wild color or even marble swirl effects.

How come "Captain Bicycle" did not think of this one??????

hairspray

We used to spray the inside of the grips with hair spray and slide them on, within a little while they were on for good, the hair spray acts as a lube and drys sticky.
