Pad Driver Seperation

February 6 2008 at 9:59 PM
Matt

Last night while doing a big restaurant my one of my Mex's drivers split apart! Between the gray and black plate separated completely, after a few minutes of the Mex bouncing around for no known reason to me at the time.

I tried as a suggestion the 3M weather strip adhesive. It seemed ok, I tested it for a few moments and it seemed fine. Then today I was at a UMass building doing a demo and the bugger separated again.

Anyone deal with this before? What is a solution besides throwing down another $250 for new drivers???

Any input would be greatly appreciated... I need my Mex!

I had that same problem.
It was suggested to me the 3M glue. I decided to by more drivers and was glad i did. my Mex seem to use less juice for some reason. After buying them i cleaned 2400 s f. in two hours with just 5 gallon rtu juice.

I will use the old ones only for hard floor cleaning. VCT ECT. Less friction pads likely won't separate.

So, perhaps you might think about that as well.

Thanks

The 3M product should work. Clean up both sides of the surface with Denatured Alcohol and then apply the adhesive It's normally a simple fix. Clean up the surfaces and then apply some 3M SUPER WEATHER STRIP ADHESIVE to the drivers and you're back in businesss, good as new...

I had already tried the 3M, but did not use denatured alchol to clean the surfaces. Where would I find that?

You can get it a hardware store.

rick, when i was in the army i was a helicopter mechanic and we use to have problems with the weather strip adhesives always pulling away from the aircraft. i know it was probably something different than the 3m but i have never had luck with any of tese types of products as far as strenght and longevity go.in fact we had to start using rivets to help keep it in place.
one of the problems is you have two different surfaces you are trying to adhere to.yes cleaning it good helps,we even use to sand the surfaces to get better penetration but nothing worked well.

i really like the 2 sided heavy duty outdoor carpet tape i found at my local hardware store.very sticky and easy to use.it has been holding up very well for me.

so if the weatherstrip adhesive fails try to find some good 2 sided heavy duty outdoor tape.the stuff i use is black and thicker than most other two sided tapes.jmo
