"It ain't love, but it ain't bad."

Well I went to Lowes- no Makita's.

I went to Home Depot (Yes I lowered myself to the conspiracy ladden, Green Glide hating, Chem-Dry owners)- no Makita's.

I got home and Harbor Freight sent me a lovely coupon for their 7 Inch Polisher.  I know it's not a Little Mak, and no it's not a Hitachi Alex, what it was was available 1 mile from my house and for $25.94 (including 8.1% sales tax).

I will let you guys know how it goes compared to my Craftsmen 19.2 Cordless Drill.  I am going to do some upholstery this weekend (it's my own in case sparks start flying from the new, inexpensive toy).

And since we have this tradition of naming our toys around here and I am a Broncos fan- "I dub thee- Orange Crush".  Yes it's orange (I'm not just a lunatic, well maybe).

Make you own luck,

I went to Harbor Freight too!

I got the 7" variable speed unit at Harbor Freight myself yesterday. Was on sale for $24 and change so figured it was worth a try. 6 blocks for me. Do you think the back plate that came with the polisher is 5/8"? They also had a 6 or 7 inch back plate (with velcro) on the shelf for $6.99, I almost got it also. I've been looking at the K-07D drill adapter at www.3dproducts.com for $3.99 which I think will fit a 5/8" back plate to see if I could make my own back plate with attached drill adapter for use with my drill. would only have $11 or $12 invested if it didn't(or did) work. Some other detailer/carcare places sell drill adapters besides 3d. What you think?

The 7 inch plate that came with mine worked fine with Fiber Plus pads.  I also have some cotton bonnets that I have from an orbital polisher, they worked too, but they went on easier then they do on my orbital so I think they are 8 Inch.  I did that over the polishing pad.

The bonnets also were loose enough that you could see them flapping out at even a low speed, when not contacting the upholstery.

back plate

Great! I'm hoping the harbor freight unit can hold up with "thin one" pads being used with it. Also, I was curious if the back plate that came with the Harbor Freight polisher would be "compatible" with the drill adapter I mentioned from 3d and allow for use with a drill or variable speed polisher, so to eliminate one more item in the "tool box". Of course, if used it much for upholstery, stairs, and such, the $6.99 cost of a back plate to go on the drill adapter would probably be recovered in time savings. I don't know for sure but am thinking they will be compatible. Thanks
