area rug problem

Cimexed an area rug approx. 12x14 in a doctor's waiting room. The next day I stopped by. The rug looked great and customer was happy except the fringed ends of the rug had buckled and the ends no longer lie flat against the floor. Should I re-wet the ends and put a temporary tact strip under them until dry or do what? Any suggestions from one of you who has faced the same problem. Thanks

Bill

Not to be critical Bill but that is why we clean all rugs at our shop.

Sometimes you can correct that by taking a spray bottle of water and lightly mist the back of the rug. Then take a weight and set it on top of the corner that is sticking up. Come back the next day remove the weight and it should be laying flat.

Thanks, Kevin. The rug was a spur of the moment add on where I thought I could pick up an easy few extra bucks. I'll go back and try your suggestion on Monday. Thanks again for your help.

Bill if that doesn't work then give me a call or email and I will see if we can figure something else out. We have to do that from time to time in our rug plant. Good luck Bill.

Thanks for your help. I suspect the area rug is wool. Each fringed edge has a wave-like appearance and thus does not lie flat to the floor. I liked your idea of misting the backing. I thought what I will try is purchase a 3 inch wide board the width of the rug, lightly wet the backing from the edge to maybe 5 inches in, place the board on top of the edge and set chair legs on top of the board for weight. The floor is tile so the damp carpet can’t hurt it. Hopefully in 12 to 24 hours the rug will dry flat. Does that sound like a good plan to you ?

Sounds like a good plan. Let me know how it turns out for you.
