Steamin Demon or just use portable?

February 13 2008 at 4:22 AM
Thomas Owens

Hello,

I presently have a portable (2-3 stage, 200 psi) for hwe. I've read a bunch of posts on the Steamin Demon on this board, as well as the ICS board. However, I still cannot come to a defintive answer whether or not this would be a good unit for me.

I plan on encapping with Cimex and hwe when necessary for commercial, and using a cbm for aggitation on residential, then hwe.

I'm just starting off as far as pursuing carpet cleaning full-time. Up to now, I've been running a cleaning service, which includes carpet cleaning. The portable has been the only machine I've used.

My question is should I just use the porty for now when needing to do hwe on commercial and residential? Or would a Steamin Demon be something that would be great for both right away.

The tuff part is that I just don't know which direction I will end up going. My cleaning service is 95% residential, yet, I would love to do a lot of commercial carpet cleaning. I will pursue both, so I would like to have the tools that would do both well from the get go.

Is the Steamin Demon for me now? Or should I just stick with the porty until I can't take it any more?

Thanks everyone.

Your porty should be good enough for you right now if you're planning on adding a cimex to the arsenal. I use the my cimex in both commercial & residential (when I can) 100% of the time. I only HWE when needed, or when customers just need to see HWE.
I have a demon and it does ok by me, but, for me, I'd rather have a good porty with a power wand (roto vac or similar) but thats just one guys opinion.

Only you can answer that question for your self
WE can only make recommendations. Each unit has its plus and minuses I have both Demons and a Cross American Recoil along with VLM equipment and a TM

Most of the time I use a Demon and a CBM or rotary machine, but that is my choice, partly because I others tools I can use with those pieces like a power wand, a standard double bend wand and a power booster if I need it.

Recoil and TM are used for T&G mostly, unless I run into a client who has a thing about seeing hoses run out the home or building

Thanks guys,

So it doesn't sound like the demon is the end-all hwe tool. I guess I should stick to my porty for now. Maybe if I can pick one up cheap it would be worth it at this moment.

Does most of the commercial work you guys do have 2 power circuits available within reach? That's one reason I was thinking the demon would come in handy at times. OF course, you would then need a water supply and dump.

Thanks.

Hey Bill,

You mentioned that you use the Cimex in residential as well? Do you have the 15" or 19"? Do you have the soft brush attachment?
I'm surprised that you would need a rotary extractor after the Cimex.

I have the 19", love it. although in residential I tend to use my challenger more if its more than 1 story (some guys take the cimex up and down stairs but I sure don't). And I very, very rarely ever need to extract. I'll usually just do one or the other, so Cimex with good chemicals like relesit has and the carpets come out looking fantastic.

By the way, I use the fiberplus pads on just about everything, but I should get some brushes, especially for residential

At 500 psi I would think that is enough to run many of the tools
I used a Hydro Tec wand and a ProRacer the ProRacer is a rotary jet tool but it has a motor the spin the jets so I do not loose any pressure with it, I have used both of them at 300 psi.
Currently have an industrial power washer I hook up to and run the vacuum from the recoil when I get nasty stuff to do. The best way is to scrub and rinse then you do not need a ton or pressure.

Personally I rather run the Demon then a portable because I can use a power wand wand and uph tools off of it and it auto dumps and auto fills. the few times I run into low pressure situations I over lap strokes and make sure to do a great job scrubbing before I extract, and or pull out the wand. I ran a Century Diamond Back before I started using Demons it was like going from walking to a jogging.

I am lazy and the though of dump and filling does not appeal to me that and I have a prosthetic in one arm

Having stated all that, make up your mind what you want to use demo a Demon if you can (for a Day if possable) once you desided what you are going to use run with it and do not look back then you will learn the ins and outs and tricks to what ever you use faster and you will not silently bitch wishing you have something different

Thanks guys for the helpful input.

Wouldn't it be awesome if a rotary was built with the vacuum/auto dump built in like the steamin deamon? Then guys without truck mounts wouldn't have to dump after every room. You could use the flow the faucet as well, since flow is more important than psi for rotary extracters. Now that would be an awesome unit. Anybody made this yet?

There are portys out there with auto fill, auto dump, and even chemical metering set ups too.

You just start getting REAL close to entryy level truck mount pricing at that point (especially a used entry TM) so at that point- WHY????

Thomas, rotary with dump........

Hi Thomas, re;..............

I have an old RX-20, mine is actually designated CMX-20 ( CleanMaster )

It is the slow speed model, 90rpm, and comes with a separate power module that enables you to take it up into high rise & use it without any other machine.

It has about 50' of hose, this holds the water, waste and electrical cable.

You screw the water hose onto the laundry faucet, put the waste hose into the laundry tub, and plug the electrical cable into a GPO (general power outlet).

As well as the normal star for cleaning carpet, I also have a soft nylon brush and a drive board that will take pads.

But, I want a Demon !!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Shorty.

PS::: Re; the Steamin Demon, I know a lot of guys CARRY them upstairs, BUT, can they be wheeled up like a Cimex ??

I've seen the light, and changed my wicked ways.

When you connect other tools to the demon, how is the waterflow at the jet of a standard wand or upholstery tool? Are you running super thick solution hose to the wand, or standard 1/4"?
