I don't offer the service, but I had a appliance service man out a few months ago and he recommended a company for me to use to have this done. We visited while he worked and by the time he finished, he told me that all I needed to do was to remove the cover on the outside and use a leaf blower on the inside and blow it out. That is what this company he refered me to does. My clog was right at the outside cover. It make sense to me. I plan to do that every year. I suppose if it was heavily clogged maybe you would need a duct cleaner.

In my area our vents go to and out the roof. We used a blower some time back...pushed all of the lint to the roof vent cover.

Now my dryer does not work well.

so...I thought maybe there is some kind of market in it.

Dryer Vent

A plugged dryer vent will cause a fire. There are small duct cleaning machines out there just for dryer vents. Check out the major cleaning distributors and you will find this equipment. Phil a vent like yours would probably cost about $50 to clean.

Here is a site to check out. Many others out there too.

We do it.

I charge $80 to respond separately and $40 if you do it at the time the air ducts are cleaned.
I am thinking of charging $125 separately and $65 if done at the time air ducts are cleaned, due to the difficulty in cleaning them.

Do you market this service seperate from duct cleaning?

Do you deal with roof vented dryers often?

Can you suggest some tooling?

Yes, we market it as a package and separately. If you have it done while we're on site cleaning ductwork, we do it at a reduced price.
Price accordingly, because some take longer than others. I charge $80, yet spent 2.5 hours cleaning one Monday. It was severely blocked. I should have used my camera and checked it first, then priced it. Still, if you run into a blockage with the camera, you don't know how thick it is.

I have not run into any run through the roof here.

I use the Rotobrush. I do only residential. If I need commercial, I call in someone else.

One last ?....well, maybe two

I want to know if you do ari duct cleaning as well or just dryer...and if you ever makret just the dryer vent cleaning?

here's why I ask: We are experienceing a downturn here economically...so the service related business are taking a hit. So.....it occurs to me that such a service as dryer vent cleaning may be something folks must have done..like it or not. But I am unclear how exactly to approach marketing here. In other words, should I design and print door hangers etc just for the vent cleaning then upsell CC while inside the home?

Dryer Vent Cleaning

February 20 2008, 9:46 PM

I have been doing DV cleaning for several years. We use a 4" brush with a plastic ball on top, connected to spring joint and rods of 3/8" plastic 4 ft long and powered by battery drill.. We first check behind dryer to see if the vent is the white vinyl type and if the vent is hard pipe of vinyl all the way out. If a lower level dryer and there is crawl space no biggie on vinyl. I tell the client the vinyl may rip and have to be replaced.

I start the dryer and go outside to find hood. You can tell by the amount of air coming out if the dryer only will work or you have to put a leaf blower in blowing out. We start by drilling from outside toward dryer.. I try to get a feel for how long the pipe might be and have proper amount of rods on hand. most runs are stright with a turn at dryer or so..

as you start drilling and lints is flying you can tell the air flow is getting better and better all the while. you have to learn the rate of cleaning as to fast you can create a clog and too slow cost time.. I go till I think the brush is in flex part behind dryer and stop.. sometimes I pull the brush as I am going to help move the lint clogs out of pipe..

we charge 125 for lower and 135 if upper or roof, any where we have to get a ladder out..

just let you client list know you offer this service.. I have a newsletter special that will give a 39 dollar discount on chimney and dryer vent cleaning at same time.. it easy money most times but you get the 2 hr job every so often...

have a good one
