Hand tools : Rotary versus Oscillating

How many of you have tried both a rotary tool, such as the Makita or a drill ,AND an oscillating unit such as the cyclo or the porter cable polisher?

I have a Makita at the moment, but am just curious how well an oscillating type machine would work.

I was about to buy an oscillating unit, but had a change of heart. I didn't want to regret buying it if it's not any good for upholstery or stairs.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have

I have a OP type buffer used for car polish that I use as well as a variable speed rotary buffer.

I have also owned and use a cyclo polisher.

All three have applications.

although the rtry seems to dig deeper, it can also spray compuned/juice everywhere so care is needed.

The cyclo is my favorite...but I burned it up a few years ago.

for upholstery use Rick G's brush

for residential work Mark D's suggests a sears car buffer - inexpesive and effective

Cyclo

Bought the Cyclo awhile ago and luv it. It provides just the right amount of agitation and makes light work of all kinds of upholstery. Doesn't throw product around either.

Would something like this be strong enough to not bog down?

The cyclo sounds good, but kind of expensive.

I do notice that the Makita does fly stuff around.

I have looked at the cyclo and have backed off due to price, although it looks very professional, and, if your doing alot of work where people (homeowners) are around ,I feel "looks" can be important.
Thomas, it looks like you found a nice scrubber for a nice price. If you choose to go that route I'd love to hear how you like it.

I guess I'll have to give it a shot. Can always keep both. Seems like you can never have enough tools.

I read that some people tried the Porter Cable buffer and like it a lot, so the one I'm looking at is similar, but a little more power.

I will definitely post my opinions once a try them out for a while.
