100% Yes on the pre vac. I would never clean any carpet with any method without pre vacuum. * Ken Jacobs Mississauga, Ontario. http://www.coswaysupply.com/

I've been posting on these boards for around 7 or 8 years now and the question about vacuuming comes up every so often. One thing I've seen over time is that everyone prevacuums on the internet, but sometimes forgets when you're talking to them privately. I am NOT saying the above two posters are lying!
Personally, vacuuming depends for me. If the place has a good bit of visible debris on it, then I'll prevacuum, but often I just wait until the post vacuuming. Sometimes, I don't even post vacuum, if there's nothing visible on the carpet.
I'm there to improve the carpets appearance.
I do a darn good job of that. |

| How long have the CC Boards been around???? | March 25 2008, 5:27 PM |
A very honest post by Sir Loin of Pork. And that is the way I approach it. We had one job today that required no pre or post vacuuming. Marty, I am trying to remember when CC boards first started. Floor Pros I think was the first. I remember when signing up every one got a blue coffee cup with their logo on it. I think the year for starting the boards was 1997. If I am correct I have been posting 11 years now. |

I have only been carpet cleaning for about 8 months now. for the 1st 3 months i didnt pre or post vac. At 2 months someone told me is should. at 3 months someone explained why i should.
Ever since then I can only think of 2 jobs that i didnt pre vac. One was because it was a commercial job an the janitorial crew had just got done vacuuming and the other was because i was in a bad mood and wanted to be done with the job as quick as possible.
As far as post vacuming goes i Rarely do that. Because The work that i Encap is commercial and there is a janatorial crew that will vac the next day. The only exception to that is if they have ark carpet and I have left a bunch of little pieces of pad all over the place. Dont want custy's to think i was throwing confetti through there place.
And on residential I HWE using a rotovac 360. So the only time i post vac is when customers carpets are so full of pet hair that there are little clumps of hair all over the carpet. Blech!!!!! |

i always pre-vac on resi and commercial jobs. never post-vac commercial and only post-vac resi (after OP'ing) when staple fibers are kicked around.
threads like this always make me re-think pre-vac'ing EVERY job...but then i still end up doing them all anyways.
gotta give the missus something to do (our little secret)
thanx --- Derek. |

I have had my Cimex less than 2 years. I only do commercial work mostly high rise condo buildings. I have never used my Cimex without first vacuuming but I also never work alone.
My weapon of choice is the Dynamic 450e from Lindhaus. In Toronto the janitorial companies only vac once a month with canister vacs....

Hi
What i would like to know if you dont post vac after encaping and there is no visual need to what happens to the soil? Contract cleaners will only use tub vacs does this do the job?

I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS pre-vac.
I hardly ever post vac. I educate my client and get them on a regular vaccuuming schedule. Make you own luck,

So none of you have found any janitorial co. or in house staff to be good enough at vacuuming?
What percentage of the total cost would you say goes to vacuuming? Since cimex encapping is pretty fast, seems like the pre-vac step can be a good portion of the time/cost.
I noticed that in the high rise condos I've been in, they seem to be pretty good with vacuuming. Usually an in-house staff. I guess the owners want to make sure their maintenance fees are being put to good use.
I'm just getting all my equipment together, including an 18" Hoover Conquest. I guess I'll be using it more than I thought. Didn't realize that vacuuming was so pathetic by jan. co's etc. |

Hey watch it Thomas!
I do good by the building i care for. I just finish filling up the dirt cup on my tractor trailor (conquest) last night.
29,000 sq.ft. of vacuuming. I'm sure glad that the other half of the tenants choose not to have there suites cleaned. (30,000sq.ft. more) Previous Jan co. was snacking out of tenants refridgerators. Peanut butter & jelly sandwitches.LOL
Its amazing how much soil ends up in our vacuums. Yes invest the time in the pre-vac Thomas, I found that its worth it.
If i didn't take so long vaccuming my custy's would thnk i was jipping them cause of the short time it takes for me to Mexmerize their carpet or knock it out with my ole Vento-Punch combination.
Thanks

Thanks for the heads up.
I am totally convinced of the need to thoroughly prevac, but just thought that some places might actually do a good job of it. Guess I thought wrong for the most part.
Any of you ever got one of those wide area vacs? I think they are around 30" or so. I was thinking that it would be kind of a pain to load up in the van, transport, or even run into problems on uneven floors. I could see using it in a ballroom, but not with furniture and corners everywhere.
