- I finally bought myself an iMac, in which I am typing this post from...What a machine!!!! Been talking about it for a while and finally did it today. I bought iWorks to go with it. The only struggle so far is transferring the stuff from the pc to the mac, the mac wouldn't accept the external drive I use for the pc...and I cant seem to get the printers working yet...Any advice on the big move to mac would be appreciated!!

Congratulations Joe!

I think you'll like your iMac. It's a real pleasure to work with for just about everything you might want to do with it.

Moving from a PC to a Mac is not hard to do. Here's what I did. I had a wireless network set up for my Windows PC's. When I brought the Mac into the family, it had no trouble jumping right onto the PC network. Whodathunkit? So all I had to do was copy the documents and files from the PC over to the Mac. It was that easy! In fact that's one of the amazing things about a Mac - they just work.

Here are 2 examples of the superior simplicity of the Mac...
1. At our office, my Windows based laptop absolutely refuses to cooperate very well with our Windows PC network. It's next to impossible to get it to log on, and once it's on it will lose it's connection. But when I bring my MacBook to the office, it goes right online and links up with our network without a problem. Go figure.
2. When I purchased a camcorder it came with instructions for downloading files to a computer. It had a few pages of instructions for connecting to a PC; a lot of info about installing drivers, configuring, etc. On the other hand, there was one paragraph for the Mac; it basically just said to plug it in.

You'll really like the simplicity of the Mac. iWorks is a real nice suite of programs that allows you to do a lot. All in all, I think the Mac is a superior system over a WIndows system. The only place where the PC has an edge over the Mac is in some of the more hard core business applications. That's why we still run PC's at our office. At least for now, the PC is still the "business" machine. But for creativity and an enjoyable computing experience, the Mac is in a class all by itself.

Welcome to the world of Mac!
