I left Nancy at the baggage carousel at the airport in Cairns and stepped over to rent a car (a right handed car). And when I returned there's this Aussie bloke standing there getting friendly with my Nancy. Well that's not a surprise since everyone Down Under is friendly, and of course Nancy's so charming and irresistible anyone would naturally fall into a conversation with her But as I approach, I recognize that it's Shorty. That's right, Shorty met us at the airport! (Gary told him when we were arriving)

We were both totally blown away by his unexpected surprise! What an awesome guy. Shorty then walked us out to the Car Park (parking lot for all you westerner's - I'm learning to speak Aussie). He waited as we got our car, and then waited some more while I had to go back inside to correct a problem they had with our rental car.

After Shorty patiently waited for us he then escorted us across town to the hotel where we're staying, so that we wouldn't have any trouble finding our way. He may have actually saved our life, since driving on the wrong side of the rode in a car with the steering on the right hand side is a bit precarious at first. It made it a nice transition to be able to just follow someone who knows the route. Driving opposite is a trip.

Cairns is a tropical paradise! We'll be taking a train through the rain forest today. I'll keep you all posted.

Cairns is a tropical paradise on the east coast of Australia. The ocean is right out of a postcard and the Rain Forest jungles are simply amazing. We took a train ride to the town of Kurunda yesterday. Here are some of the photos. There's also a Koala and Wallaby habitat in Kurunda, as you'll see in the pictures...
