| I did a demo 2 weeks ago for a company I was doing VCT for. The manager told me at first she had a carpet cleaner. I told her I would do a demo for free on her worst area or anywhere she felt there might be a problem. I persisted. She pointed out a black streak coming from the lunchroom to the warehouse door. She said that always comes back in a couple of days after they clean.I told her I would take care of it. She didn't look like she believed me. I padded with my HOS and PUNCH.(I picked one up used at Christmas time with the spray jets). That was two weeks ago. She called me today to tell me I got the job. The carpet still looks great and no more Black streak.I quoted her .25/Sq.Ft. She wants them done this weekend.

Hey Derek,
How's everything going.
I would have used the Mex but I wanted them to see the crud on the pads.Plus I need the experience. What I will do is Mex it and then pad it to remove some dirt.Follow up cleanings will be the Cimex only. (and I'll have a customer for life)LOL....
Scott,
The Mex is much faster than an OP or Rotary. I am still new to OP I have used a rotary and as far as cleaning I think an Op will do a better job. Pull more dirt out. Although a rotary IMHO does a fine job too. And there is a learning curve with OP. I used John G'S Glad Pads and Ricks Punch. If your going to do large commercial the Mex is your best bet. Or a large OP. Small commercial The Vento/Hos will be fine.
One thing to consider with OP. You'll have the added expense of pads and the washing of them. But if you want to remove dirt while your scrubbing then look into it.
I still love my Mex though.
On another note I have Encapped commercial carpet with the Cimex for a year without flushing and there is no build up of dirt or ShAmPoO. And you don't grind in into the carpet. So don't believe everything you hear. |

Good job!
I will definitely try to do as many demos as possible, and not take no for an answer. They don't know what they're missing! |

Here is a sample of a demo using encap with an angle brush. This is in a private club, nothing fancy, and they will decide this Thursday whether they want the rest of the carpet cleaned.

A demo is very important. Too many people out there think they can clean carpets and I have seen the guys with the rug doctors and even TM's and have problems on CGD. I am no expert by any means but you need to show your potential client what your capable of doing. They think all carpet cleaners are the same.
I have to thank Rick G. for that he is the one who stressed demo's and persistence. |

Wouldn't it be better to take your machine out and actually demo what you are planning on doing, instead of just an angle brush? Sure it takes longer, but if could increase your chances of landing the account, it would seem like time well invested. |

The picture I had posted is in a small club that only has 409 sq ft.
There isn't that many commercial accounts in our area. A lot of businesses and home owners don't really care about how their places look. I always look for the worse spots to demonstrate. After I make a nice clean spot in the middle of that mess, and you can't get it thru your head that the carpet will clean up, then I don't need you as a customer. People call me because they want clean and that's what I produce is clean, first time every time. Have you ever walked into a house and booked an appointment after the people have an appointment with another company? I have several times. I use what works for me and if pulling your machine out works for you then stay with it. |

Thanks Charles for the reply. I actually haven't done a single demo yet for encap. Still haven't got all my equipment. I was just thinking out loud.
Sounds like you have a very challenging market there. I can see why you need to be creative when marketing.
I will keep your idea of using the angle brush (which I also have) for a quick demo. It makes sense that you are demonstrating results and not method, which really should be irrelevant to the potential customer. |
