My friend (the newby) is asking me a question.

And, I don't do enough padding/encap. cleaning to know the proper answer.

He has a residential job coming up and he says it has severe traffic lane wear on it. It's residential, and I suspect it's polyester. He asked me how to go about making sure he lifts and scrubs the pile properly. Keep in mind that all he has is a Defender OP machine.

I told him to call Rick and get some fiber plus pads, but that I though he'd "probably" be ok with only the normal cotton pad scrubbing.

He just emailed me back and said he saw on Steve Smiths Vacaway site where Steve cleaned a car dealership with a white pad. I looked, and sure enough, it looks like he's using a white pad.

Will a white pad hold up and give an adequate scrubbing on residential carpeting? The one Steve is using it on is a commercial glue down, so my impression is that white will hold up, and agitate adequately, but I don't know for sure.

What would you tell him?

OP cleaning on residential?

I'd recommend either a Tuway Thin One or a Microfiber pad.
For trashed polyester I'd probably go with the Tuway bonnets.

Encap-Punch is what we suggest for a pad/bonnet detergent.

That set up works very well.

Marty,
Are you pulling our chain?

OK. I tell you what I'd do.
Polyester? clean same as olefin. When you say residential you mean cut pile?
I would HWE cut pile if it's really matted. Berber pad it. But if he HAS to pad either

Pile Lift
Vacuum
Punch with Glad pads.(KEEP THEM LUBED AND MACHINE MOVING)
Vacuum to groom

Do I pass?

You are right Joe, I think he is putting us on, LOL. The way we OP residential trashed polyester is; pre-spray with Punch or Hot Knife, agitate with a CRB (Marty you can lend him yours) follow with OP with bonnets to absorb what you have dug out of the carpet. You will need either Tuways or Micro-fiber and then groom with a Grandi-Groomer. Works for us.

LOL ... this is a serious thread! I have a really good buddy, we grew up together, who I talked into pad cleaning. He's doing it part-time.

He asked me the question and since I do very little residential pad cleaning, I thought I'd ask you guys for him. He reads here, but is kinda shy and doesn't post.

I think he's afraid to let you guys know he knows me.
