Icapsol Great for Residential!May 6 2008 at 12:33 AM | Thomas Owens |
| I'm just about to go full speed ahead on pursuing commercial accounts, but still have some residential to take care of, not to mention my own home.
Here in Hawaii, the locals take their shoes off before entering, so the residential carpets don't get too dirty (except for rentals, another story). I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to encap with the Icapsol.
All I can say is that it does an excellent job. I've used hwe on these homes before, and the Icapsol has not disappointed. Even tough spots like make-up come off with encap. It seems so easy to do, it almost feels like you're cheating, but the end result shows otherwise.
The biggest shocker was how much crud comes off of the carpet. On my own home, I used the icapsol followed by a good vacuuming for dry soil removal. Next, I sprayed the encap on the carpet and went over it with the icapsol. I couldn't believe how much more old worn out carpet came off. A wool area rug that we've had for a couple years was the worse.
The cool thing about it is it almost seems like the Icapsol is stripping off the old worn out fibers, thus leaving the carpet and rug looking nice and bright again. I swear the area rug looks brighter than before.
I know many do not like the idea of a low moisture cleaning for residential, but for a lot of the homes I deal with, it seems to be the best option. Plus, many prefer low moisture cleaning.
The Icapsol is a very handy, versatile tool, especially in the residential market. I can't imagine cleaning a residential job without it now. |

Glad to hear you're likin your iCapsol Thomas!
BTW, we use the Sprint machine to keep the white carpet in our home "white". It's a different machine than the iCapsol, but it is a cylindrical machine too. We clean our carpets every so often with the Sprint and Encap-Clean DS, and our carpets stay perfectly clean! Gotta luv a simple system that works!
Enjoy your new machine

Thanks guys.
The one thing I've noticed 2 days after I've cleaned my carpet is that it is definitely stiff. Not sure if customers in residential settings would like that.
Due to being all the way in Hawaii, I am unable to get Releasit products due to shipping costs, so I am using Brush n Bonnet from CTI. I also noticed that it seems to have a slight residue feeling to it. When I walk on hard floor after walking on the carpet, I notice a slight stickiness to it. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks. |

"Am I doing something wrong?"
Yep. You aren't using Releasit
Let's find a way to try to get you Releasit shipped at a reasonable rate.
It's worth it. I promise!

I only use Encap products in houses;
Cimex
Multispin
Oreck
and
Small spotter/HWE
used to use a bonnet on a floor machine on the tougher carpets but not on the longer loose/cut ends.
Releasit, so far best of the best, Resi and Commercial |

I guess I'm going to have to find a way to get Releasit to Hawaii.
I'm testing out the CTI brush and bonnet in a dish to see how it dries.
In my home, if I rub my hand on the carpet, there is still a very slight residue which I can smell on my hand. When I step into the shower, my feet have a slipperiness to it when it gets wet.
I thought Brush and Bonnet was supposed to be a good product, but so far not so good. It sure cleans well. Carpet never looked so good in my home, but kind of defeats the purpose if it's "grippy" and stiff.
I got one complaint from a customer who said it felt stiff as well.
So for those of you who have used Releasit on residential, what should the carpet feel like afterward?

The carpet should be soft after cleaning. A soapy product makes the carpet stiff and sticky. Not all encapsulation chemicals out there are Real Encap products. Vacuuming is not going to get rid of stiffness. If you can feel the residue on the carpet the only thing you can do is rinse with hot water.
After pouring some of your product into a small dish or bottlecap and you don't see a white crystal by the morning, you don't have a real encap product. |

The test sample of brush and bonnet has dried to a harder consistency and is not leaving residue or odor on my hand. I'm starting to wonder if my carpet has an accumulation of prespray, etc from years of hwe.
The sample is crystalizing now, but seems to be a bit difficult to remove from the dish. I need to use my finger nails to take it off. Should it come off very easily? I would think that if it can't come off of a smooth surface like a dish, it will have a even tougher time on carpet. |

Update on the sample: I guess it really hasn't completely crystalized. I would describe the end result as a dry paint. Also, it still seems to smear on the plate a bit. Very strange.
That's the bad news. The good news is Rick has figured out a way to get some Releasit Encap DS to me in Hawaii at a shipped price that will work for me. Can't wait to see how it works.
The first place I'll test it on is my own home. I'm getting tired of sticky feet. |

Do you have an extractor? Clean Hot Water Rinse will take the sticky out of your carpet. To save your customers carpet I would HWE it and get rid of the stiffness and other residue.
I first tested encap in a bottle cap and had a white crystal the next morning that did not stick to the cap and was easy to get out. |

I see that you posted this question on the ICS message board too. I decided to reply here rather than on the ICS board, because I didn't want to jump into the thread over there.
On the ICS board it was suggested that perhaps you may have over applied the product.
All I can do is scratch my head and say hmmm to that.
Actually, we recommend using a 50/50 ratio of Releasit for treating recurring spill stains. And even at such an insanely high dilution there has never been a residue problem.
Bottom Line:
Does your encap look like this when it dries in a dish???
NOT ALL "ENCAP" PRODUCTS ARE CREATED EQUAL.

It most definitely does NOT look like that. It actually is still a little soft and smears after 2 days of drying.
I've heard so many possible reasons for why I'm having issues, but if it can't harden to a brittle crystal like state in a dish, that says all I need to hear. |
