I've had many conversations with cleaners in the frozen north. And aside from suggesting that they move down here where it's warm and sunny 360 days a year --- we also talk about the problem of Ice Melt. And I've been told on a number of occasions that RELEASIT is doing a terrific job of maintaining entryways where there's a large amount of ice melt being tracked onto the carpet. That makes me happy!

Yes Rick you are right as Releasit works very well on ice melt. Just last week I had a few entrances of a retirement home with this issue. Sometimes the first land of the foot inside the door will produce a buildup of ice melt that looks and feels like concrete. First step to removing it (I OP) is to scape off as much of the built up hard ice melt as possible. I then spray into the ice melt a generous amount of Releasit DS.....saturate to soak the spot. I then let it dwell to break down the ice melt further. After dwell I will take a towel/pad to blot/soak up the R-DS. I then normal clean with my OP. Ice melt really isnt much of a problem and R-DS removes it without problem. |

What is this ice melt you refer to? I usually just leave mine in the glass long enough and it will melt on its on.

From Houston, TX where it was 96 yesterday and 70% humidity. Ice melts real fast here. |

You Southerners can laugh about our weather all you want; at least our snow/sleet/slop creates more opportunity for cleaning!
Waiting for the ice to melt-

Ice Melter
Encap may give it a clean appearance, however, in the long run the ice melter is still in the carpet and once the heat and humidity arrives it will come back. Once activated it attracks soil and turns real ugly in a hurry.
It is an alkiline so it must be cleaned with a acid pre spray, dwell time is critical, and than flush with the hottest water possible, in severe cases it will require more than one cleanings. Some of our best customers have us HWE the main lobbies in their buildings weekly to eliminate the build up of ice melter residue in the carpets. This is the only way to control all the problems associated with ice melters.
We had tried the encap system in these same buildings, but it did not solve the problems.
Weekly HWE is the only way to keep our buildings free of buildup of ice melter residues
Yes we are in the Great White North. |

if the build up is present i will pre-vac then pre-scrub dry / quickly with my medium-stiffness Cimex brushes to break the stuff up, then pre-vac slowly again.
no fun.
thanx --- Derek. |

You can pre scrub and vac all you like nothing will change.
Pre spray on the acid side, give it extra dwell time and flush with the hottest water you can generate |

Usually the carpet wears out first
Most of the carpet down under has jute backing.
We often find cellulosic browning due to flooding of the carpet on jobs.
You should not be overwetting the carpet so much as to mimic flooding when encapsulating.
Having said that, on polyprop carpets where we find cellulosic browning, it is now customary for me to simply clean with Releasit & Big Yella; to remove the problem.
On nylon and wool, I still use an acid based product and HWE to cure the cellulosic browning.
Hope this helps,

Always good to be aware of any potential problems that may arise.
If the carpet is going to be wet down fairly heavily, and the backing is jute, there is a good chance of cellulosic browning.

I believe that most of your backings are now Action Bac. (Reg; TM)
I stand corrected if this is wrong.
Action back that I have seen is a white fibre which I also believe to be 100% Polypropylene.
Jute backing is a brown fibre, not unlike a sugar bag material.
