Sales Rep & Demo

As I grow my carpet cleaning business, I want to gradually transition from my full-time day employment to full-time carpet cleaning (recently purchased the Releasit CMS CD).

I am debating on hiring a sales rep to pursue sales by following the steps outlined wihtin the CMS program during the day hours and I perform all the cleaning in the evening hours after my full-time employement.

Please share your experiences, thoughts, suggestions, especially concerning should I allow my sales rep to demo with my NEW Cimex (sweating as I type just thinking about it but what other choice do I have). Thanks!!!

If you are not free to do the demo's, than you will need to let your sales rep do them.
My concern is how do you intend to pay your sales rep, if you are a one man show only cleaning part time. How many hours can you work? What happens if you are sick, or you can not handle certain jobs within the time frame the customers wants?
Maybe yours sales rep will need to also be a part time cleaner.

Thanks for your feedback, Don & Geoff!

Don,
Luckily, I have the financial ability to compensate a part-time sales rep. I expect to initially have small or negative profits while I pursue new business. I plan to keep my oprions open and costs limited by hiring a temp-to-hire sales rep. I also have backup in cause of I get ill. Thats a good idea to have the sales rep perform cleaning as well once he/she becomes full-time. Thanks again!

Geoff,
I think I really dont have another option, but to train my sales rep. Im really not worried bout the sales rep changing industries. IMO thats a part of our and any industry. Thanks again!

You would have to teach your sales rep to do a demo. You would pay him less than you expect to earn per job.

Just a thought......what is to stop your sales rep seeing your earning potential and changing industries part time himself.

Part of the sales process is selling yourself. People tend to either like you personally or the quality of your work/service to want you back.

Good luck.

Sales Rep and Demo

I just hired a guy to sell commercial accounts for me. He'll be working one day a week targeting as many accounts that one day as he can. I'm only paying him commission so him no sell, him no get paid. I told him I would reimburse him for gas but thats it. As far as demos go his job is to get in front of the decision maker. If a demo is wanted then I will be doing it. After the demo is done, the deal should be closed.

I dont know if that helps at all, but for me I figure he only gets paid if I get paid. What do I have to lose? We'll see how it goes.
