Extension cord for Cimex gauge?

August 12 2008 at 2:59 AM

I need to add a 25 or 50 foot extension cord to the Cimex. I noticed that the Cimex cord is 14 gauge.

Would adding a 12 gauge cord of 25-50 feet be sufficient?

I have a 50 foot 10 gauge cord, but that thing is pretty heavy and kind of tough to drag, especially on wet carpet.

Thanks.

12 gauge should be suffiicent for the lengths your interested in any longer you would want to jump to 10ga due to voltage drop

12/3 is good for 50' You could run as much as 100' of cord, but I prefer to limit it to 50'.

One option would be to get one our KODIAK Cords.

These are our heavier duty replacement cords for the Cimex. We don't normally fit this cord with a female end (as you'd have on an extension cord), but we could apply a female end for you, if you'd like. This 50' cord is higher quality than any heavy duty "extension cord" you might purchase at Home Depot. The only problem is - shipping a Kodiak cord to you in Hawaii might get expensive. So you may want to just settle for what they sell at the home improvement store. If you purchase an off the shelf extension cord, get one that's about as thick as your ring finger.

Thanks for the info guys.

I decided to replace the Cimex cord with a detachable 50 foot 12 gauge cord, and to use an additional 50 foot 12 gauge extension. The 10 gauge cord is just to heavy. It's like pulling dead weight when walking the Mex.
