Rust rings from hell

August 18 2008 at 8:19 PM
Brad

I have a big break room that has 40 or so 3 foot rust rings from the bottom of the tables.
The tables were put back on the carpet when it was still wet. The company that did it has re-cleaned the area and was unable to get them out.
I tried VacAway’s rust assassin and the rust came out on one ring.
My question is what is the best way to clean that many rings of rust spread over a 700 sq ft room?

Would Citric Acid work?

Any input would be great.

Thanks

REPLACE.

Or...

You might also consider CTI Rust Away.
It is POTENT STUFF. Really strong!
It'll definitely bend your nose hairs.

At any rate, it's gonna be a slow job.
Lot's of hand work, blotting with towels.
Wear gloves and charge accordingly.

P.S. I seriously doubt that you could the horsepower you need from Citric Acid.

Yeah, citric acid isn't gonna help you.

Try the product Rick recommended. Myself, however, I'd use a porty to extract rather than towels--quicker.

Wink seems to work ok

Erusticator is the best product I have seen work, but you cannot get it any more.

I hear about all these great products that are not available any more, I am starting to wonder if they are urban Legends!!

Young grasshopper, Erusticator was powerful stuff. It would eliminate rust very quickly. It could also etch glass that was in close proximity (i.e. windows and sliding glass doors). And it would dissolve flesh (rather painlessly) right down to the bone. There's a good reason why it's no longer on the market

Watch out for Whink!! That's a pretty dangerous product; make sure to wear gloves. The CTI product is much safer. For those rings, I'd put the Rust Away in a 2-qt. pump sprayer, and see if that would work effectively. Avoid misting in the air!

I have to disagree,

NEVER, EVER put a rust remover into a trigger or pump sprayer, it will get airborne when you spray it.

I loved Erusticator, always wore gloves, kepte the Erusticator and Neutralizer (nothing more than baking soda and water) with gloves just for them in a small hard shell cooler. It was quick at removing rust, and I always used lots of neutralizer before rinsing it all out. But alas, its no longer available, deal with it.

There are a lot of good rust removers on the market today, but they all need a good rinsing after use. Just use gloves and be careful in applying the remover and you should do just fine. Citric acid, might work, if the rust isn't too bad, but don't count on it.

Brad,

I'm glad to hear your rust is gone.

Rust Assassin is a great product! It contains the same active ingredient that Rust Away has AMMONIUM BIFLUORIDE. Rust Away also has a couple of other active ingredients. Both are really good products. It sounds like you nailed it! Good job.
