Hoover Conquest: "One-pass cleaning?"

August 21 2008 at 2:28 AM
Thomas Owens

I read that the Hoover conquest is a one-pass vacuum cleaner. Does that mean you only need to go in one direction?

The main reason I ask this is because I was looking to get the 28" wide conquest. Can you just walk it forward, or do you have to go backwards and forwards like any other vacuum?

Keep in mind, I am looking to use this on an account that wants me to vacuum hallways 3 times a week, so it's not like it's super dirty.

I already have a Windsor Wave, but it it a bit big for 5' hallways. Also, cutting into doorways and making the turn at the end is a bit awkward. My employee also happens to be a women. She looks pretty beat at the end of the day.

The wave is called a one pass vacuum where you only need to walk it forward. Just wondering if the Conquest could be used the same way.

I think Alex has one of those 28" wide conquests if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: When reading the features of this vacuum, why does it say that it has a 10.4 amp motor. I thought it was just 2 standard motors, one in each 14" vac?

Thomas,

one pass is all you need in one direction. Especially as frequent as 3 times per week.

Fits right in a standard doorway. Strong enough for a man but made for a woman.(Easy to handle) Only thing is that its high airflow causes it to stick to the surface so you may have to adjust brush roller up a notch.(easier walk forward)

5' hallway is plenty room to walk up one side of the hall and make that u-turn to come back down. Just adjust push handle in upright position and simply turn around. Quickly unlock handle with foot and go. (2 second menuever)

Unlike many wide area vacs the conquest is compact with no big balloon bag, yet its very high performance.

If you decide to go for it and can't find one just holler at me.

Thanks

Oh yea,

and it takes up only 2-1/2' x 1-1/2' of storage space in your van.

Hoover, in their infinite wisdom, has stopped manufacturing the 28" Conquest.

A truly great vacuum cleaner, relegated to the history books.

Probably the most efficient wide area vacuum ever made.

If you can find a dealer who still has one, grab it.

What they really should do is sell a kit to transform two 14" vacs into one 28" vac.

Seems like it would be a very easy thing to do.

Thanks Alex. I'm (more like my employee) am eagerly awaiting the c1820's arrival.

I got a new one off eBay for $925 shipped. Trust when I say the "shipped" part is important.

Once it comes in, I will probably try to sell the Windsor Wave locally. It's just too big for what I'm doing. Maybe a ballroom, or extra large hallways. It eats up real estate real fast, but it needs the room to operate.

It's a pretty cool machine, but it's getting suffocated in those tight hallways.

Also, I like the cost of replacement parts and paper bags (yes, I am converting it to paper bags!) on the Conquest.

Just as Rick said, I don't know why they discontinued it. Simple, yet effective.

So does anyone know for sure if the 28" conquest has 2 standard motors? For some reason on the schematics, it gives a different part number for the motors in the c1820.

The total amps of the machine says 10.4 amps. Shouldn't it be 13 amps if it is two standard motors?

What on earth is Hoover doing? Is the commercial vacuum industry that bad?

Hoover has been plagued with huge product recalls in the past couple of years. And they don't seem to have areal sense of direction for their business. Dyson put a hurtin on 'em. They've been slow to bring exciting new products to their line. They don't seem to understand their market very well. Even the excellent Conquest vacuum, which has enjoyed a fine reputation in the commercial world, has been long overdue for some design changes.

Large corporations are often slow to respond to changes in the market. Sluggish response to changes in the market can spell doom for a company! Executives often base their decisions on spreadsheets and flowcharts. Yet real world cleaning tells us that the C1810 and the C1820 are superb units, a couple of the best on the market. There's no other wide area vacuum that can compare with the 28" C1820, and yet it no longer exists. Oh well - that's business for ya
