Orbot Sprayborg Adjustment. and 19" pad driver request.

October 8 2008 at 5:07 AM
Thomas Owens

For a while, I was running my Orbot without the Sprayborg because it was difficult to bend the head upward to replace the pads. The black thick cord from the motor would get stuck on the bottom blue cylinder of the sprayborg. The only way was to lean the handle back, but then solution would drip out of the jug.

Today, I made an adjustment that seems to have solved this. The two springs that were on the side of the handle closer to the sprayborg were the problem. I put them on the opposite side instead, thus moving the sprayborg away from the motor cord. Now I can have the handle almost straight up and still flip the pad driver head up to change pads. It still has shock absorbency with the rubber washers and the springs on the other side of the frame.

I also switched back to the 17" pad driver for now because I kept "drilling" baseboards with the 21" pad driver going beyond the base of the machine.

That leads me to the thought that a 19" pad driver would be perfect. The 17" has about a 1" gap from the base of the unit. Add an inch all around, which will then be 19" and it will clean right up to the wall without drilling it.

Also, I like the thickness of the 17" pad driver. The 21" seems a little too flexible the further out you go. A 19" pad driver with the thickness of the 17" pad driver would be perfect.

I haven't used fiber plus pads yet, so maybe with a 19" pad on the 17" driver it'll go right up to the baseboard, but with cloth type pads, it doesn't quite get there.

By the way, what are you guys doing about the tight fitting bottles?

They certainly slow you down messing with them. I guess tight is better than loose and falling out.

The reason the bottles are so tight directly coincides with why the Spray Borg is suspended with rubber washers. The prototype had a loose fitting bottle and was bolted on tight and the solution would foam up in the bottle!
The adjustments were to help the solution from being shook up!
