Tile & Grout Equipment Questions

October 22 2008 at 7:11 PM
Lewis

I want to be prepared to provide tile & grout cleaning when requested without purchasing an additional extractor until demand requires it.

I currently have...
- 500 psi portable (manual dump & fill)(12 gal waste tank w/ heater)
- 19' Cimex

1) Can I purchase a grout brush, water otter and a Turbo Force Hybrid to complete my necessary equipment / tool requirements?

2) Is it true that I will have to empty my waste tank every 5 minutes due to not having auto-dump?

I know I will not have the best production times, but I plan to tough it out until demand requires better efficiency.

Thanks!

I am not sure about the answer to some of your question as I own a Butler and run the tile and grout machine off the Butler. However, I can tell you that you will go through a lot more water cleaning tile and grout and your waste tank will fill up extremely fast if it is only 5 gallons. Ours fills up on some bigger tile jobs and its 110 gallons. We also run out of water on bigger jobs and we carry 110 gallons of fresh water with us.

Getting more tile and grout jobs

We are getting more and more and at a $1.00 a foot, it is fast and profitable. Kevin is right on target. You will need heat (235 to 250 degrees) and pressure (800 to 1500psi) lots of water and lots of waste space. We use auto fill and auto pump out from our truckmount and the Turbo Hybrid we got from Rick. I was never happy with the portable and lack of heat, lack of psi, lack of supply and waste recovery.

Sounds like I need to go up on price. We get .75 a square foot.

I just ordered one of the new Durrmaid continuous flow extractors. 50-1200psi and has continuous water in and pumpout and only weighs like 50lbs. Hopefully this will take care of my Tile and Grout needs, and coupled with my Rotovac 360 I can HWE extract carpets when needed. Can't wait to finally get one to try it out. As for tile and Grout chemicals hard to beat good old cheap rinseless floor stripper. MUCH more cost effective than viper venom and works better in my opinion. Just make sure you mop it down and don't take a chance of overspraying appliances.
