I'm Loving My Orbot!

Now that I have been able to spend quite a few hours using the Orbot, it's really growing on me. It's my first OP machine so I had to not only get used to how the Orbot works, but how to OP in general.

I'm sure I have some refining in my process to do, but it's getting fun. Results have been nothing short of spectacular. An account I've been doing for a few months now was really impressed with what it could accomplish. They also love the look of it.

I like how you can use it to straight encap with tuways or fiberplus pads, or remove soil and get carpets nearly dry if you choose.

I took a little while to warm up to the Sprayborg, but now it's such a time saver. At first I was still spraying with a separate battery sprayer because I just wasn't comfortable with the system. Now it's like second nature. One thing I think I will need to do is get larger jets. The 02 jets are causing the chemical to get into the air too much. Would two 06 jets still work?

I also had the 21" pad driver cut down to fit perfectly under the base. Actually, the 21" driver is 19". The oscillating path is 21". I had it cut down to 16.5" and now it goes right to the edge of the base without hitting baseboards. This has made a night and day difference for me. I would highly recommend this modification.

I still use the Cimex for large commercial areas, but for just about everything else, I love to whip out the Orbot. It has really completed my arsenal of tools (toys?) in my battle against grime.

One side not, I just picked up the mini version of the Orbot, the Oreck Orbiter 550. I read good things about this little guy and must say that it's a great handy tool. It already has made my life so much easier on a few jobs. It goes where the big guys don't want to go. The pad driver goes right to the edge of the base as well. No mods needed for that.

One ironic thing about it is even though it's so tiny, the Orbot is easier to control. Nothing against the Orbiter, but it just illustrates the fabulous design of the Orbot.

By the way, the stickers on the Orbiter come off. You don't want your customers to see the word "Oreck" on any of your "professional" equipment. Looks better without the stickers anyway.

So far so good on the Orbot!

Thomas I am glad to hear that you're loving your Orbot!!!

I agree - it is an amazingly well designed machine.

You have a good idea there. You could add a much larger jet and it should work just fine. You can easily go to a .06 tip (even a .08). All you will need to do is back off the flow through the ball valve. By restricting the flow at the ball valve, you can control the amount of solution you're putting down. And with a larger tip, you won't be spraying the atomized droplets up into the air.

Enjoy your new machine. Thanks for your feedback. happy.gif

Orbot quick questions:

November 7 2008, 8:23 AM

from speaking with 1 of the fellas who make the Orbot, it oscillates only 1/2 inch to each side, so that would make the pad driver cover an area of 20".

1) so, if at 16.5" it goes right to the edge of the Orbot's base without hitting baseboards, does that mean that the smaller 15" pad driver does not clean to the edge of the machine?

2) does it have a bumper?

if question 1 is true and it doesn't clean to the edge, then i need to change my order quick before it is sent and have two 19" pad drivers sent instead of one 15" and one 19".

thanx --- Derek.

I have Both the pad drivers i bought with my Orbot, the larger one has not been used as of yet. When we get a large open job I'll use it, or when i need to use beige pad/fiber plus pads for a longer period of time, this is because 20 inch pads will beak apart where the drive ends after a long period of use.

I use 19 inch micro fiber bonnets and scrub pads like the ones Rick has on clearance, getting to the base boards or under racks is not a problem so far. I believe this is due to the pad going beyond the driver

Derek,

The 15" pad driver does NOT clean to the edge. It stays within the base of the unit.

The 19" extends beyond the base of the machine, thus hitting baseboards. I had a machine shop shave it down to 16.5". I would recommend that you put the 19" pad on and do your own measurements to see how close to the edge you want to go. 16.5" was perfect for my machine. I would imagine it would be the same for other units as well, but I would check to make sure.

It would be nice if they just made the 16.5" pad driver. Maybe it's in the works.

Rick,

I was worried about over application of chemicals. Thanks for the reminder about the flow valve. Great idea.

Thomas,
I just ordered my Orbot Borg on Monday. What has been your experience so far w/the Bot on CGD? What spray jet mods have you made that are working?

Thanks,
James
