Chewing gum on direct stick poly;

Shorty

Got a job coming up with direct stick poly;

There is a fair bit of "The American Curse", (chewing gum) ;-( in the carpet.

Naturally, I will be using Big Yella for this task.

What suggestions on removing the gum & recommended methods ??

I also have the Vac-a-way range of spotters wink.gif

Looking forward to plenty of replies, as I'm sure a lot of others will also be interested in this problem.

Thanks Jeff,
I have the gum getters, plus a few of the shark type as well.

I like Hel-Jel from Vac-a-way, I also have a local product called GROG. wink.gif

Get Rid Of Grease happy.gif

Works very well.

Have used quite a few of the citrus types over the years, but found that most need to be flushed out.

These ones work wonder with encap.

Sometimes I do use a damp rag with the local brew just to take the edge of it a bit.

Will let you know how it works out.

Any others ??

Pro-Solve Gel

November 13 2008, 6:26 AM

A SMALL dab of Pro-Solve Gel and a blunt scraper will get the job done.

http://www.excellent-supply.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=4&idproduct=291

1. Apply a dab of Pro-Solve,
2. Work the gum with a scraper.
3. And blot with a towel
Then just encap the carpet like normal.

Out of laziness we have found that the 50/50 mixture of Releasit Encap-Clean DS will remove gum also. Now it is not quite as fast as a gum remover product, but when you have the 50/50 spray bottle already in your hand and you don't have to walk back to the truck to get some it comes in handy.

If there is a lot I would suggest the pro-solve gel.

We use the aerosol gum remover the freezes the gum.
It breaks apart real easy that way. Other things we use Cross Americans Attack mixed as a spotter and HardBall Chemical Pine spotter

I also freeze it. When its frozen, scrape it with you vacuum's crevice tool, attached to the vac, with the vac on. Gum is removed and disposed of in one step. Works well with the Lindhaus. Another vacuum I have doesn't work quite as well for this.

What I prefer

November 13 2008, 6:25 PM

Shorty, with a lot of gum I prefer a Steam Vapor machine. If you put the tip (240 degree steam) directly behind the gum and hold it horizontal, it will blow the gum off quickly. Sometimes you have to go pick it up to put in the trash.

I use "O" solve (citric solvent) and a knife...I cut grooves into the gum, let the solvent sit for a bit... then work it out with the blade followed by encap spotter. works great.

I have been using Master Gel from Masterblend with a gum getter.

It is a clear gel and it seems to ball up and not leave any residue. I still spray some releasit and give it a pass or two with the Cimex for good measure.
