Serious question

November 14 2008 at 4:42 PM
Shorty

How many carpet cleaners on this forum, or for that matter, how many do you personally know, that have ever been made to pay for carpet due to a warranty dispute ??

I hae been involved in this industry for many years and have NEVER been involved in any such dispute.

I also know of no other carpet cleaner that has.

It is my belief that a lot of this hysteria is hyped up by individuals & large businesses that have a vested interest in particular methods, solutions and machines that will in some way, return them money.

Never ever forget that when we, as carpet cleaners, go into someones premises to clean carpets, we are already working with second hand materials.

That's my whinge for today wink.gif

Have a great week-end,

Shorty.

I've seen the light, and changed my wicked ways. wink.gif

ME?....NEVER!! AND I DOUBT I EVER WILL. NOR DO I KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS. AND I'LL EVEN GO ONE STEP FURTHER. I HAVE TOLD A COUPLE OF MY CUSTOMERS (MANY I'VE HAD FOR DECADES) THAT ASKED ME ABOUT WARRANTY ISSUES, THAT.........

....."IN THE END, THIS IS YOUR CARPET, NOT THE MILLS, SO YOU HAVE THE ULTIMATE CHOICE OF WHO AND WHAT METHOD YOU WANT PERFORMED ON YOUR CARPET. CARPET THAT YOU PAID FOR, WITH YOUR MONEY".

ONCE I PUT IT IN THOSE TERMS, ALL THAT WARRANTY STUFF GOES OUT THE WINDOW.

FUNNY, I'VE SEEN MORE CARPETS SCREWED UP FROM TRUCK MOUNTED STEAMERS THAN ANYONE ELSE, YET THEY'RE ALWAYS THE "APPROVED" SYSTEM. WHEN ARE THEY EVER GOING TO LEARN THAT IT'S NOT THE METHOD - IT'S THE MAN!

To answer your question Shorty, our cleaning company has specialized in cleaning commercial carpet for a little more than 25 years now and the issue of "warranty" has NEVER come up. Not once, not so much as a mention.

In addition to our experience cleaning millions upon millions of sq ft of commercial carpet in our own business, we now spend the day working with cleaners all over America and around the world. Guess what? You guessed it - we have never, never ever, not even once, heard of a single solitary warranty claim come through on a carpet that any customer of ours has serviced. And if there was a warranty claim don't you think we'd be the first one who would be called?

Here's what I suspect. Mills make decisions based on blips on spreadsheets. If a problem pops up on their radar they will naturally respond. And no doubt rotary machines have been responsible for some problems on their carpets. So they now have to react to cover their assets. So blanket statements may be made to insure the security of their product (and that's understandable).

Understanding that the fiscal reaction on the part of the mills may or may not have any actual bearing on what is truly happening on a day to day basis in the REAL WORLD has always guided my thinking. And since what we see in the real world is not necessarily supported by assertions made by certain mills, it brings me to wonder what's really going on here. Exercising common sense and professional cleaning practices has always been the safest bet in my opinion (regardless of which cleaning method is employed).

I am not buying into the notion that a Cimex has ever damaged a carpet. Getting struck by lighting would be more probable. I would like to see evidence that any mill has ever had to pay out for damage caused by a Cimex. You and I know that has not occurred and it isn't very likely that it ever will. So then, what is the real issue here? Where in fact is there an honest to goodness problem?

IT'S ALL.......................

November 15 2008, 6:18 AM

MARKETING!! AND SCARE TACTICS TOO. LOOK, I'VE BEEN USING A ROTARY FOR 25 YEARS AND I NEVER SCREWED UP A CARPET FIBER. NOT ONCE! AND I KNOW THIS BECAUSE MY EYESIGHT WORKS AND I WOULD HAVE SEEN THE DAMAGE. NOT TO MENTION, HEARD ABOUT IT. LIKE I SAID....IT'S NOT THE METHOD, IT'S THE MAN.

GIVE ME 20 MINUTES AND A BANANA AND I CAN TRAIN CHETAH TO EITHER CLEAN A CARPET CORRECTLY.....OR RUIN IT. SO FOR THE CARPET/FIBER MANUFACTURES TO BLAME A MACHINE FOR EITHER THE SUCCESS OF FAILURE OF THEIR PRODUCT(S) ONLY SHOWS ME THAT THEY'RE UNEDUCATED.

LIKE THE OLD JEFFERSON AIRPLANE LYRIC GOES....."ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT WHAT IT IS YOU KNOW, OR JUST REPEATING WHAT IT WAS YOU HEARD" SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT OUR BELOVED CARPET MANUFACTURES.

IN CLOSING, IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU'RE DOING, THEN DON'T MAKE A FUSS OVER IT. JUST DO WHAT YOU DO AND MOVE ON. NEXT!
