| Anyone get into these stores to clean them? Asked a manager the other day and she gave me a contact to call...they do have someone come in to clean, but, I tell ya, they are NOT doing a good job!

I've been trying to get the Blockbusters in my area too. Hard to figure who actually makes the call on these stores, the store manager, or someone higher up. I've also been trying to get the large bookstores in the area also, the Barnes & Noble type stores, same story there too. They would be great accounts though, just come right on in, vac, clean, and go.
I think I'm going to hit'em up again this week, let you know if I get any further with them. Let us know if you make any headway also.
Good Luck

Good chance they are National accounts, you could sub contract the accounts but good chance it would not be worth the effort. |

!5 years ago I attempted to land some blockbuster. They told me that they only pay .05 sq. ft., had to be after closing and they wanted the vct and tile done n/c. They are not the acct that you want to go after. Let the bottom dwellers lose money on them. |

That explains why their carpet looks so bad. I just dont get it - maybe you veterans of CCing can explain why they would spend so little on maintenance just to have to replace the carpets every few years.
I see this in some hotels I service. Same mindset - one hotel I clean told me 2 yrs ago that theyre getting new carpets, so they wont need me as much! LOL! they called me a year later telling me they need me - well by that time the carpets had some permanent damage and staining to them...needless to say, now they have to spend another $10-20K to replace it all!! I just dont get it! What gives?

I have been involved in Building maint. for over 25 years, and building maint. is usually one of the least appreciated aspects budget -wise. Also there is simply lack of emphasis on maintenance with in the industry. Look at how well the auto maintenance industry has done. EVERYONE knows to change their vehicles oil every 3000 miles, even my Mother knows it! We haven't done enough education. At some point I think the "decision makers" think if we clean it, it will just get dirty soon again.Or maybe they are just cheap. |

That is very hard to do from our end, but, if the mills and the retailor would establish the fact that proper maintenance is a must to get the maximum life out of their flooring investment it would go a long way to helping us getting in the door and setting up a proper maintenance program. You mention the auto industry and the importance of routine maintenance as a must, that came from the car manufacturer and not the buyers of cars. Why can our industry not do the same for us? |

We used to clean for them years ago. I quit because it was a money loosing job. It is a national company out of new york the best I remember that handles it. They wanted HWE but were only willing to pay .10 a sf. or less depending on the store. We would bargain with them and try to get it higher but we never got more than .10 a sf. We would go in after they closed, which was a killer, and go as fast as we could. ( I am not very proud of that, but it was 10-12 years ago and we all make mistakes.) To me it is not worth doing and so we quit.
