Putting a new set of wheels on cimex CR48

November 26 2008 at 5:17 PM
Paul

The wheels on my Cimex CR48 are looking very shabby so I was going to purchase a new set, at the moment I am just going to replace the wheels with like for like to smarten the machine up a bit.

Is this a straight forward job? I can't see how the old wheels come off.

Do I need to order anything other than the wheels ( i.e. clips etc..)

Many thanks

Paul

Shorty has the best set up on wheels.  He repalced them with a bigger set that climbs stairs better.

See if the new Orbots wheels will work they look like they would.

Paul, if you're having trouble with the Cimex wheels and can't see how they come off, try this.

At the end of the axle is a chrome hubcap.

This is spring loaded on the inside, ie; inside the cap is a circlip type spring, this holds the cap on, which in turn stops the wheels falling off.

Two long screwdrivers and a small hammer.

Tap one screwdriver down on one side of the axle under the cap.

Do the same on the opposite side.

Once you have both screwdrivers getting a decent length under the cap, place Cimex head on the ground and put a couple of bricks, blocks of wood, whatever, under the axle to get the wheels off of the ground.

Keep working one after the other until the cap starts moving back off the axle.

It's simply a matter of lever & fulcrum type movement.

Put on a larger set of pneumatic wheels, the difference is nothing short of amazing.

Hope this helps.

Ooroo,

Shorty.
