Best Encap Tool for Stairs

December 2 2008 at 5:23 PM
Ritch Paprocki

Been scouring the old threads on this topic. Makita 9227C seems like a great tool for encap on stairs. Does anybody have a preference for another tool?

PS - Makita 9227C...side handle or top handle?

Thx!

Ritch

The Makita works great, you just have to be careful to not get too much solution on the pad as it will spray around.

The other one we use is an Oreck Orbiter. This is the most comfortable tool to use, but they would be much better if they were built a little heavier.

The third tool I really like is the 1/2 HP version of this orbital. This one seems to stand up very well.

The Makita can be purchased from a tool store like House of Tools but you will need the pad driver and pads. I sell them as well as I sell the Orbiter and the 1/2 HP orbital machine. I also have all the pads available for any of the above.

I have a less expensive version of the Makita.  It has worker nicely for me on stairs- heck I even cleaned my bathtub with it and a fiber plus pad and some Comet!

They run $39.99 normally.  I just bought a second one on sale for $29.99.  I also got the 2 year "No Questions Asked" in store replacement plan for $9.99.  Total bill- $42.41.

Beats the heck outta $250+

Encapping stairs

December 3 2008, 6:42 PM

I have a small orbital stair tool, an oreck orbiter, and the drill driver with 8" tuway options for stairs. My favorite though is to use a small Sebo CRB known as the Duo to scrub the stairs. Only weighs about 10# so it's easy as pie.

I suspect one could get this machine through Rick, the Windsor version is knows as the Dri-Matic I believe?? I'll leave that for Rick to clarify.

In my opinion all of the orbital OP options for stairs have tip bloom problems with it comes to nylon cut pile & plush carpets, that's why I also carry this.

Sebo Duo

Here's one place.

On sale according to the website.

But like I said I think Excellent Supply sells the entire Windsor line which would mean you could get it here under the windsor dri-matic name. Only difference is it's blue.

A host machine would probably work too but I don't have one.

I don't clean risers with the Sebo, i use my Makita for that.

Pre vac
Pre spray
Sebo on steps/landings
Makita w/ fiber plus pads risers n steps(if needed)
Makita w/ tuways risers n steps.
Post vac w/ uph tool attach, i use a hand vac much easier to use on stairs.

Customers like the Xmas Tree look on stairs esp.
