How to Convert Demon XL-15 to Classic Filters

December 8 2008 at 12:09 AM

Del Scrivner

I just aquired a very nice gently used Steamin Demon XL-15.

I searched and tried to find the thread where someone (David Hebert I believe) talked about how to convert the new XL models from the filter bags to a Classic style reusable filter, but alas I could not find it.

David, or anyone else for that matter, can you provide details please.

Thanks,

Good Morning to you

The first thing to do is purchase a Classic Demon filter
This gets installed where the mesh filter for the XL is now.

Cut the bottom of the cloth filter off and install as usual
simple and easy to do. The reason you still need the cloth filter on is to prevent water or foam going in to the vac port as it does not have a mesh filter on it.
You will still need to change the cloth filter occasionally.
This does work I have done it for larger jobs that were nasty, knowing I'd blast through filters. Personally I would not do it on a full time basis, but then I have two others that are Demon II.

Del,

The filter bags are a GOOD idea, not a bad one. They switched to the filter bags because it keeps the internal workings of the machines from getting crudded up. I know, I know - you'll have to purchase filters. But they're not expensive and should be viewed as a minimal part of your operating expense. Congratulations on acquiring a "gently used" XL15! They're awesome machines and I know you're gonna love it.

I am going to agree with Rick on this, the filter bags keeps you machine a lot cleaner, the only reason to use the method I gave out is 1. you have a nasty job where you are going to blow through 10 filter bags in the first 200 sq ft of the job

2. you just do not have any more bags to use, again I would not do it on a full time basis the time savings from cleaning up the messes alone is worth the cost of the filter bags. If you have employees it saves on machine down time do the the machine being kept cleaner from the start.
