Cold Calling Question?

February 4 2009 at 2:07 AM
Aaron Baum

Hello,

When I have made some cold calls to some larger offices like a new large helth ins. office as example, I asked the receptionist to speak with the person who handles the carpet cleaning.

She said, ok please hold and put me directly into this gentlemans voicemail.

I politely left my name and number and what I was calling about briefly, without going in to much detail.

Do you have any suggestions as to what might be the correct way of doing this? I am always greatful for anyones ideas and think you are all the BEST to work with!! happy.gif

Thanks in Advance!!

Aaron,

You probably got the name of the person in charge from his voice mail. If not, try getting it from the receptionist by asking her if you can mail a flyer and to whom to address it to.

Then mail a letter telling him how you can make his carpets shine. Call before mailing then call after the letter reaches him. Be consistent there after. In a gentle way.

Thanks

Your Servant Alex

Aaron,

Alex gave some good advice above.

You will need to leave an exceptional message in his voice mail, and then continue to follow up.

Voice mail affords a perfect opportunity for a mini commercial. So go for it! A good voice mail message would go something like this:

Good morning Mr. Jones. This is Rick Gelinas from KleenStep, here in St Petersburg. We're a major commercial carpet cleaning company providing carpet care for hundreds of businesses throughout the Tampa Bay area. The reason I'm calling today specifically is so that I can stop by and tell you about our system for improving the condition of your carpet, and extending its useful life. I can provide you with a free carpet inspection, as well as a free demonstration of our cleaning system when I stop by. And when we get together I'll be happy to address any problems you may be having with your carpet. Please give me a call so we can set up a time that's convenient. My number is 727-821-2020. You can also check out our website at KleenStep.com I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Now with regards to Cold Calling techniques - let's cut right to the chase... Do one simple thing... Buy this book! It'll set you back a whopping $10. Read it (it's small). And apply what you learn. This one simple book will teach you every valid point you need to know about cold calling!

Rick I just ordered the book as well. Great tip about voice mail as I have never thought of it as a "mini commercial". (I always called back when I was asked if I wanted voice mail) This all comes with good timing. I am in the process of expanding my commercial work. I am using your CMS program and I am building my commercial base during my slow season. (I have a demo this afternoon) Last evening you mentioned something interesting that I have set a goal of and have been very much trying to do. I am not looking for my next carpet cleaning job......I am looking to build a business relationship....

To have "Green Eggs and Ham" for breakfast before you go Cold Calling. Dr Seuss gives out some valueable info too. If your customer will try you, they'll find out they make like you. Now go out and have a Great Day!

Yikes, Shorty. Oh well, I guess that's the cost of living in paradise. Stuff is expensive down there.

I recall being at the Clean Expo in Australia. The prices for EVERYTHING were just about double what we pay here in the States. Yet these fellas in the States complain about the prices sometimes. You guys don't know how good you have it.

Imagine DOUBLING the price of every single item that you use to run your business; from gasoline to truckmount's. Well the Aussies boldly take it all in stride. They're not phased, they simply carry on with their daily routine, and still manage to keep a pretty darn good disposition to boot.

Hang in there Shorty!

P.S. The book is worth what you paid for it.

For down under text version that takes soooo long.

Why not search for an ebook along the same lines? I books take only about 1 min to download, so while you are waiting for this to come in, you can be reading another one!

Hi Shorty, do you have Amazon in Australia?

I just picked up a used copy for £2.76 (UK) including post & packing!!

Worth a try mate.

Failing that - You sort me a set of oversized wheels for my big yella as I've given up hope over here and I'll sort you a book out!!
